I'm 15 months dry.
A disappointment, I’m sure. May your medications do what they should for you.Well gang, it's gonna be a dullish Christmas for me. I haven't been told to cut out alcohol but I've noticed that with a beer or two or a shot of booze, my medications aren't as effective as they are without booze so, I haven't had a drink for some time. Too bad. Just look at all the full or nearly full bottles of booze that are going to waste on my DVD cabinet. I might have an Eggnog with a shot of bourbon Christmas Day but that'll be the extent of it. Makes a pretty picture though.

Nice post Jack. I’ve heard “nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.”Thanks buddy, I'm sure you're looking forward to taking some time off
Thanks Bill, been a good dayYes, it doesn't have the intensity of the Islay malts, but a good malt nonetheless I think, and very reasonably priced here
Cool pic of your Hartshead Barlow my friend

Hope everyone's having a good dayCold again here this morning, but I enjoyed walking down to Charlie's in my warm coat...
![]()
After having a coffee at Charlie's I headed into town, where I had to go to the bank, post office, do some shopping, and pick up my prescription - if it gets any heavier, I'm not going to be able to carry it!![]()
The lady in the post office gave me one of the newly-minted Ten Bob Bits, which I thought
screened porch might like to see
I reckon they've downsized those ears Jer!

On my way back home, my pal rang me to say he was heading round to mine, so when I got back, we went inside for a while, and then I suggested going for some lunch. We headed to a local institution, a couple of miles away, Anand's Sweets, a Punjabi sweet centre, which also does excellent curries. For a long time, it was just a very inexpensive street-corner takeaway, which was very much a hidden secret. Then, a couple of years back, it won a lot of media plaudits, and national acclaim, with one cookery pundit, saying their samosas were 'The Best in the World'. I thoroughly agree with that, but preferred it when the rest of the world weren't in on the secret!

Anand's gets much busier now, and prices have crept up a bit, but the food is still inexpensive, and superb. We enjoyed a great curry each, with chapatis, and I got a bag of samosas, and some chutney to take awayI'll be having a couple for my tea!

Yeah, busy time of year for sure! The schools broke up here yesterday
When I was a youth worker, I was working right up to, and including, Christmas Eve, with 2 or 3 parties a day for the different community centre user groups. The worst groups, by far, were the old folks!

Good morning Guardians, there's a thick frost outside again, and the thermometer is still low. There's a rail strike today, but I reckon the city centre will still be packed with shoppers and revellers, and thankfully I have no reason to go in. I do have plenty to do though, getting things ready for my vacation, I see ironing in my future!Got housework to do too, some stuff in the garden, and a bunch of cardboard to shred. Have a great day Guardians, and enjoy your weekend

Wonderful story Jack. You painted a great scene with your words. I will be laughing for awhile.I was pretty cantankerous when I was young Bob!These 'old folks' weren't even that old, I doubt there was anyone out of their 60's, but they were a headache!
They argued so much, there were actually two groups, rather than one, and they hated each other with a passion, so separate events had to be organised. They were mainly bossy, unpleasant women, who bullied and fought over the small number of men, (I think there was only one man in each group), and were horrible to the children who used the centre. Because they were bullies, the centre spent far more on their two Christmas parties than those of all the other user groups, but there was a funny event at one of them. Someone from the centre, invited some old gentlemen from the community, and they turned out to be from the local 'wet hostel' for alcoholics. Half a dozen old fellers duly turned up, scrubbed up, and looking their best. Then they spotted the free sherry!

Thanks Bob, I was just, this minute, talking to an old friend of mine, who lives in a care home in London. He was just getting ready to go to their Christmas party, but he said he was worried about fights breaking out, as some of the residents are always arguing. Apparently, there have been several fist fights in the past month!Wonderful story Jack. You painted a great scene with your words. I will be laughing for awhile.
Enjoy the weekend and hope you get everything ready for your vacation.
I hope it is an outdoor CafeMy mate's youngest lad, Idris, is a sweet kid, but he has a lot of severe food allergies, and doesn't seem to be growing out of themFortunately, he absolutely loves baked beans, and he and his dad have beans on toast for lunch, several times a week
My pal was joking yesterday about their fantasy business idea, setting up a beans on toast cafe!
There would be just three items on the menu, beans on toast, cheese on toast, and beans on toast with cheese, so it would be cheap, and fast
Idris has even done a business plan, but they couldn't come up with a name to emphasise the fast food nature of their beans on toast venture. I suggested Bean And Gone !
Just the thing for a Saturday lunch![]()
