Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Beni is taking a break for a while and RALF is back in the pocket this morning.

RALF looks better and better 🙂👍
Jack, have a safe trip home. 🤠
Thanks buddy, a long but pleasant journey, arriving home to cold temperatures, heavy rain, and a taxi driver so rude he very nearly lost his teeth! 😡 Been opening Christmas cards, talking to Tool Man, and getting the place warm again. Seems like I've been away for weeks! 😁👍
Morning Guardians! Jack hope you arrive home safe and sound. Got 19 standing guard today. 🤠

Many thanks my friend, since Wee Staggy had to be packed away in my suitcase, I put my Hartshead Barlow in my pocket when I got in 🙂👍
Good morning. It’s a sundries run this am.

Cool pic 🙂👍
Good morning Guardians. The east parts are finished, now it’s time to tackle the tough parts. May have to use my lamb to “trim” a few pieces. It goes a lot quicker that way!

Have a safe trip home Jack! 😎👍
Many thanks Todd, great pic!.😎 😁👍
Somebody said this was a good day for reflection about lessons learned during the past year. I guess it is. My small Lamb with buffalo horn covers thinks so too.

That's a cool pic Ed 🙂👍
🤣 I hear there’s a croissant with your name on it, waiting for you at Charlie’s.

That is the question.🙃
Hope so buddy! 😁👍
Good Morning Guardians💂‍♀️
That's some cool old bone 😎👍
LOL! Brilliant!.😁😎👍
Carrying the new one again today after a dusting of snow last night...

Very handsome 🙂👍

This pic is taken on top of a magazine with what I trust to be a straight banner , I didn’t go out into the shop to get the mic but with just an old tape measure the width of the blade is 16th of an inch narrower at the abrupt tip than it is at the sharpening bevel 🤷🏻‍♂️View attachment 2028211
Hmm. I should leave these questions to Jack Black Jack Black , anyway.
Nice knife, for sure.

The question regarding whether the Ancient Barlow qualifies as a "Lambsfoot" comes up from time to time. The short answer is, no. One might try to fit it within a loophole regarding measuring the minute details but it's kind of one of those, "If you have to ask..." sort of situations.

Lambsfoot knives have a very distinctive shape and look. Once you become familiar with the Lambsfoot, you cannot mistake any other blade or knife for it.

I disagree with this, I have seen several A. Wright and Joseph Rogers knives with a very similar blade as this one, but the company called them lamb foot knives so it was accepted as such. I feel this is a gray area, I have handled thousands of knives and I needed to ask the question so what does that say ?

I don't think there is anything wrong with you asking the question.

That said, the Lambsfoot blade is likely one of the most oft misunderstood (and therefore misidentified) blades out there. Same could be said for Kepharts, which we won't discuss here, but countless makers make a "Kephart", only to have completely misunderstood what makes a Kephart, a Kephart.

The thing is, the Ancient Barlow is not a Lambsfoot. Being a SFO of Charlie's, it was never billed as such but it was meant to represent a very distinctive blade style on a very distinctive and old pattern. But I get why you think it might be a grey area - even I have issues with some of the knives that are accepted as proper "Lambsfoot" knives.

My comment regarding "if one has to ask" still holds true. If you are holding a knife and you have questions regarding its legitimacy as a proper Lambsfoot, then chances are it's not going to qualify. I think a great many of us have been there and done that and through experience and enthusiasm, we've learned a great deal.

Again, questions should be welcomed. My point is still that once you become familiar, and this comes from experience (and hanging out here), it will be hard to mistake otherwise.

Best response I have seen to date ! Thank you for your input and thank you for the knowledge , I knew what you meant by “if you have to ask “ but as men we have to try the waters every now and then !

I guess this knife will have to move on then!! Lol

Yes we will leave Kephart out of it , even though he gave us drawings to go by !
