Thanks Leon. What's amazing is it was Cosimo's first attempt at jigging.!I just love that jigged bone. Sensational.
Thanks David. We've had perfect weather for the Toms. That's a handsome Lamb. But the bone is stunning!![]()
Tomato's are looking good!
Alas I keep forgetting you are on the other side of the rock.Out toms have finished, will have to use canned for cooking. Can still get fresh but they are rubbish
Víve le Toffee Wings!!!!!!
It would be my pleasure to host you two knife aficionados Neal! That's some high level cooking machinery which must produce some fine meals.
If you ever need help with an over supply, Barrett and I could make a road trip your way.
And a wonderful picture of three of my favorite things, knives, beer, and dogs
That lamb takes my breath every time I see it.Good Saturday to you Guardians. Sitting out back along with my cat. The baby turkeys are showing up. I have not been able to get a good picture yet. They’re pretty cute. Beach weather here. The town will be hopping. I’m back to feeling great but I have plenty here at home to keep me busy today. And I’ll be finishing up a book called The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder. And here is the pile side of my lamb that’ll accompany me today.

Love seeing the brick and rock work and architecture. The ancient city of Nessebar, (or Nesebar, or Nesabur, apparently - that's what happens when words get translated), is the jewel in the (shop-soiled and somewhat tacky) crown of the Bourgas region, and I could not really go to that part of Bulgaria without visiting it. In a very boring, and badly attended, meeting, on my second day at the hotel, the holiday rep had told us that the bones of John the Baptist had been found there a few there, and according to our rep, DNA analysis confirms thisApparently, his head was not found

My dodgy taxi-driver, Alex The Scrupulous, dropped me at the small bus station, where I would have alighted had I not been duped into paying 20 Lev for the journey, instead of 2From there I walked in through the gates of Nessebar.
![]()
After my adventurous morning, I decided that I should have a coffee before going any further, and stopped at the first cafe I came to, where an espresso cost me 8 Lev ($5)!
![]()
After drinking my expensive, and decidedly mediocre, coffee, I headed through the faux-cobbled streets, which were certainly in better shape than those near my hotel, even if whole sections were still being laidIt is small, but pretty town, with a number of ancient churches, and ruins, and is situated in an attractive position. I was hoping to perhaps find an antique shop here, but just like elsewhere, many of the shops were closed. Those that were open, sadly, sold the same tat as everywhere else I had been, but at higher prices, while many also made extra profits from advertising their toilet facilities.

You say it like it's a bad thing.but because Bulgarian society was fiercely patriarchal, when they came home exhausted, they'd have to clean the house, cook the food, and everything else, while their husbands put their feet up, and got drunk
Nicely posed lamb Dwight.
Your guess is better than anything I've got.I didn't see many of these, just a few, but I did wonder what they were. Any ideas Guardians? My first thought was that they were maybe hangovers from when Bulgarian cities were lit with sewer-gas perhaps, (as opposed to not lit at all), but why build them 30ft high?Maybe to stop Bulgarian drunks climbing them!

Great narration so far on your journey Jack! I'm quoting as I go cause lately my quotes keep dropping if I go too many pages at a time.
Beautiful photo
Thanks Jer, but it's a mystery to me, I've done a few searches, but turned nothing up. I'll have to try and find a local BulgarianYour guess is better than anything I've got.
Maybe Alex The Scrupulous could have told you what they were. For a little fee of course.I didn't see many of these, just a few, but I did wonder what they were. Any ideas Guardians? Too late to drill a hole ad see what it smells like. Thanks Jer, but it's a mystery to me, I've done a few searches, but turned nothing up. I'll have to try and find a local Bulgarian![]()
The middle pole looks like it has a call box on it.Too late to drill a hole ad see what it smells like.
Do you think there may have been a sculpture at the top? Perhaps some political or military figure who has since fallen from grace.I didn't see many of these, just a few, but I did wonder what they were. Any ideas Guardians? LOL!Maybe Alex The Scrupulous could have told you what they were. For a little fee of course.![]()
There's definitely something there isn't there Bob? There are standard-looking call boxes all over the place, but maybe in an earlier time? The middle pole looks like it has a call box on it.
That's a good suggestion RachelDo you think there may have been a sculpture at the top? Perhaps some political or military figure who has since fallen from grace.
Thank you kindly, Jack!!!That's a beautiful photo JJ, I love the way you have caught the etch![]()

Three treat to start your Sunday: drinking, eating and slicing; love the architectural images you captured in Bulgaria, too!I'm just enjoying a cup of the heavenly Kona coffee Mr & Mrs Tyson A Wright sent meI'm having some Bulgarian khalava with it, but it isn't up to the same standard
