Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thank you David, I had a late night, and an early morning
Thanks buddy!

Maybe in their Bexoid period ;)
Interesting. Looks like a cost saving move. Or one to make the knife thinner. Or both. During that time when things were starting to decline. 🤔 🤠
I am BEAT Guardians! 🥱 I got up very early as I needed to do a couple of things before heading out. At the market, another whole section of the indoor section has been closed for two years, with £30 Million assigned to be squandered/back-pocketed on renovations, followed by huge rent increases, which will price out the few remaining traders 😡 Our Cake Man is particularly badly affected, as his stall is now cut off, with no passing trade 😠 After reporting this to Tool Man, he decided he needed to assess the situation, and taking me with him meant that he had a chance of more cake. While we chewed that fat with Our Cake Man, I surrendered to the inevitable, and purchased Tool Man's favourite 'School Slab', who then decided to treat himself to a family-size egg custard. Back at the stall, I showed off the Pals Lambsfoot to the assembled regulars, before Tool Man quickly consumed almost all of the School Slab, the entire custard, quickly followed by a bag of custard doughnuts, of which I saw only the empty bag, and 2 samosas and some mushroom bhajis. Even by Tool Man standards, Tool Man was being very greedy (and I'm sure I only saw a fraction of what he ate)!

Beautiful cake cutter. Can't say the same for the cake eater Tool Man. 😁 Hope you can get a good night sleep tonight.

I'm certainly looking forward to the show, but more importantly, to seeing some great friends!!!
Several Guardians will be there, and I hope some others will show up as well.

Enclosed is an early post WWII wood handled Wostenholm model with a light blade etch that reads "Real Lamb Foot Knife".
Steve has a nice two-blade version of this knife.

Make sure you bring that basket of $5 lambs that you supposedly offered us last year 😂😂. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow…I guess today actually 😁.
Hope everything is OK buddy, and that you're still looking forward to the knife show :)
Everything is fine, Jack. Just more busy as usual. Had to pick up 2 shifts to make up for the guy covering for me for the knife show. I’m very excited to put this past week behind me and meet up with the fellas at the show!!

Shame about the guys being pushed out. Tool Man is the ultimate man of mystery. Mystery of how much food he can shove down that is 😂. I am so happy that that Cosimo has been steady by your side since receiving it. It is very nice to see you take to it.
You take such wonderful pictures, Dwight. I always think of Harvey when I see your photos. His pictures were very well put together as well. Miss him.

Caught this one on the auction site. I wish I could capture the color in the scales a bit better they are gorgeous. Blade is obviously well worn but it still has the spirit of a lamb! I’ll put it to use regardless.
Excellent!!! Well worn lambs are just cool.

As you have all noticed I have caught up. Sorry for the 100s of likes everyone 😁. I’m halfway done with my shift. I will be hitting the road soon after to meet the guys for breakfast. Of course a snow storm has to hit us just in time for the show 😒. Been an absolutely beautiful winter and POWW. Snow storm on Badger Show weekend 😂. Still carrying Jacks wonderful ‘19.

That's a handsome Harvey pic of your Washington Lamb. :)
Thank you my friend, that's high praise indeed :)
Beautiful photo Dwight, I love the coin
Yay! :) Smashing Ken :)

Plenty of life left in that one :)
Charlie myself and Glenn all have them in older ones. You should check yours when you get a minute 👍
Yeah, I'll go and have a look in a minute Steve :) It's not laziness, I'm just rushed off my feet right now
Cake eater ! 🍮🍩🍰

Hope you sleep well Jack !
LOL! :D Thanks buddy, I was in bed five minutes after posting, and slept like a log! 😴
Bexoid goes back to 1936 from what I can find out.
Yeah, plastics are older than most people think, they go back into the 19th century. If I remember correctly, Rodgers were using Bex in the 30's

Yeah, I imagine it would saved a fair bit

Thank you David, it was very much admired :) Tool Man is a very greedy man! Thanks buddy :)
That's one way to keep the suspense palpable!

I know I'll be tuning in!
LOL! :D I hope you're not too disappointed Will, I just couldn't keep my eyes open much longer! 🥱
Afternoon all
Looking good Mitch :)

I know the feeling mate :) I hope you all have a wonderful time - there's got to be a movie in that road trip! 🤣

Yeah, over the past 20 years, businesses that were there for generations have been ruined by incompetence and greed :( I don't know how he does it! He says he's always been a big eater, but doesn't seem to have slowed down as he's got older. In fact, in the time I've known him, the reverse is true! I love my new Lamb Paul, inevitably it makes me think of the kindness of the good friends who sent it my way, and the spirit of the Guardians :)

Oh no! I hope that's the only bad luck you get my friend :) Breakfast is the best start to a classic road trip :) You're lucky you don't have Tool Man there! :D

Good morning Guardians, I sure needed a sleep last night! 😴 It doesn't seem long ago that both me and my pal Wolfie got Fridays off, but I'm still in the thick of it, and I think he's working too  I hope everyone has had a good week :) I'm pretty excited for the boys going to the Badger Show, and hope everyone going has a great time :) I thought I better give my Hartshead Barlow some pocket time for Old Friends Friday! :D Have a good day Guardians, the weekend is almost here

While I was looking after Musical Andy's stall, I thought I might as well take a few pics of the instruments he had for sale this week. He tells me that one of the banjos is more than a hundred years old.

I spotted Doctor Death, but I couldn't get a good pic. I thought I'd got him in the second one, but he turned his head at the last minute, hiding his sinister features from further scrutiny

We already have a Hell-On-Wheels, so I'm not sure what we're going to call this guy! Nobber Al spotted him, but by that time he was a long way off, but I managed to get a shot as he sped past a few minutes later

I have quite a lot of Joseph Rodgers knives, though mostly from post WW1 or WW2. Most however, are either single blade Jacks or Pen Knife patterns, which wouldn't have a central liner. However, I do have a Rodgers Bunny Knife, with the same Bexoid covers, and that has one in brass. Rodgers ran those patterns for a long time, right into the Schrade era, and beyond

Maybe post WW2, there was a shortage of brass, particularly as there was still fighting in Burma, Korea, and elsewhere? I do have a much older Rodgers Lamb with a central STEEL liner

That sound plausible 👍

Thanks for the market report. Try not to work to hard today Jack. HHB looking good.
Thanks a lot David 😊 I think my sleep apnoea must have gotten worse, as I can't seem to stop falling asleep at the moment 🙄
Nice photo of Rose Beast Jer 😎👍
Sweet old friend !

Thanks Steve, just a thought :) It certainly wasn't my first guess, but could be an explanation. It took Britain a long time to get back on its feet after WW2.

And then...  😖

Good morning Guardians !

New to me, one of Jack's Regular Bagpipe Lambs 👍

Yes , That's some of that white stuff.

Winters not over for us here in Minnesota

Happy Friday all !
Makes for a nice photo, at least Steve ;) Keep warm buddy :)
Surely you can't be serious!

Michigan is also being a meteorological puckish wag.

Please stop calling me Shirley! :D ;)

I didn't get very far with my work this morning, as I fell asleep for an hour! I decided to go out for coffee, and ended up having lunch with Wolfie in town

It seems that there are plans to put a Yorkshireman in space! ;) :D I imagine there are logistical issues designing a helmet that will accommodate a flat-cap, and a delivery system for a 'proper brew'! ;)

Looking online, it seems nobody has registered 'Yorkshiremen in Space' yet, so I might pitch it to NBC :D

Thanks Bill! Those photos were taken in an area off the main park road named "Pa-Hay-Okee," a Seminole word meaning "grassy river" - a term that is, quite accurately, often used to describe the everglades as a whole. There is a boardwalk and an elevated platform that gives a somewhat rare glimpse of the everglades from above the treeline - a natural choice for taking in the sunset!

Literally, before human development changed the course of the water flow (there are now, and for at least the past ten years have been, ongoing efforts to restore the natural flow of water), the entire southern half of the state, from Lake Okeechobee down to Florida Bay (the last bit of mainland before you hit the Florida Keys) was, from the eastern coast to the western, one massive, but shallow and slow-moving, river!

I say "slow-moving" because the water only travels approximately ½ of a mile (0.8 kilometer) per day! In fact, one of the ways you can orient yourself in the environment (even if you've got no sun) is to put something that floats in the water, mark the location with a stick, watch it for a couple of hours (you're lost - what else are you gonna do? 😂), mark the final location with a stick and you've got a reliable north-south vector as the "river" always flows south. From any point in the everglades; walking south, north, or west won't do much good as there are vast expanses of nothing but swamp -- but, as the majority of Florida's east coast is highly developed, if you head east - you'll eventually hit civilization (or something like it 🤣).

Simply avoid drowning, and dehydration (both of those are common perils), getting bitten by a water moccasin (cottonmouth), coral snake, eastern diamondback rattlesnake, American alligator, American crocodile, bull shark (no joke!), black bear, or Florida panther (critically endangered), and sheltering under a Manchineel tree (the Spanish explorers named it "la manzanilla de muerte" or "little apple of death") and you'll be fine! 👍

aB2k5Cf.jpeg

The water in the background of this picture is only about 5 or 6 inches deep, and most of the everglades is like this, with occasional punctuations of deep holes formed by limestone erosion (a mostly natural process) and "islands," with foundations of ancient coral reefs, where sediment was able to accumulate and allowed the ubiquitous bald cypress trees to take hold.

If any of you gents ever decide to visit South Florida, I'd be happy to give you the "insider" tour!
Thanks for the note back to me. It's a beautiful area. I live a a marsh land in NC with scattered lakes, swamps, and wetlands in general. Love this geography.
