Yep, went with the water for now.
Not an English pie, but on an English plate with an English knife!
Very cool pic.
You and me both Jack., but to be honest, for a man my size, that's not a bad thing!
I LOVE TATER CAKES. And those look perfect.Tater cakes for supper tonight
I certainly agree with you on your great find Glenn . I noticed that you did not comment on the interestingly jigged bone . Does this indicate that you will replace it ???? Congrats on a great find my friend .I was hoping to get your thoughts on this one. It's a wonderful Brookes & Crookes Sheffield.

I really enjoy all the interesting things on this knife...2 blade, rough steel pins, brass bolsters.

I'm laughing so hard because I literally "cut and paste" my math tests and worksheets all the time.I carry a lambsfoot ...

because sometimes "cut & paste" must be taken literally!
How 'bout you?

It was good. Made the mashed potatoes to accompany leftover turkey a couple of days ago. Wife made the gravy. That looks yummy. I’ve had many of those little pies in my time, but have never thought to take them out of the tin and serve them directly on a plate. Very classy. And probably works well with your mashed potatoes, too!![]()
LOL! I had been meaning to read Stuart Maconie's Pies & Prejudice for some years (I'm a sucker for puns, and the pie reference was definitely a bonus), and finally got round to it about a year ago. It was a disappointing read, but from what I remember he spends a disproportionate amount of paper talking about Wigan, which sort of made me think I should visit at some point. Pie eating aside though, (and that great-looking engine), you're probably right though my friend! Thanks for the great links - though I have to be suspicious of a pie connoisseur who'd eat from the Pound Bakery, a friend once bought me a sausage roll from their Barnsley branch, and after I turned my nose up, even his dog wouldn't eat it!
Those lasses on the train presumably went somewhere else!
The Pie Barm made me think of the idea I had to put a fried breakfast in a pie!
I have a mate who regularly enters pie-eating contests, but he's not at the international level!

Is that to keep Yorkshiremen out?!![]()
Hope we get some sunshine again soon my friend, but I think the forecast is rain for the rest of the week

The one in Wigan looks like the Silver Surfer.

...to, among other things, slit the crusts of my pies.
How 'bout you?
Buddha's Hand, which is a citron. No juice to speak of, but the rind is not bitter and the entire thing can be used like lemon zest in food and baking, and for making candied rind. And, of course, it does have its decorative potential.

I carry a lambsfoot because...View attachment 1028433 I am a knife knut. Because it is an essential element of a knife historian's revelry... and a most elegant worry stone...
How bout you...?
Haha, no, I wouldn't do that on a neat find like this one. I've got plenty of other victims to practice on.

Couldn't waste them! Was picking up a few things at the store this morning and saw the pot pies. Hadn't had one in years, but I get to see a lot of meat pies in this thread! Thought it would go well with the taters.
LOL Jack! I'm not sure about that, but it would certainly keep the Scousers and Lancastrians from raiding the black pudding off Bury market....Or it could be where the Pound Bakery are based....
I read that book on your recommendation actually and found it quite funny.
It's Holcombe Moor firing range, above Bury. Up there is 'Peel Monument', (aka Peel Tower/Holcombe Tower) built to commemorate Sir Robert Peel, most famous for setting up the modern Police Force. I think, on a clear day, you can see that from Stoodley Pike, and vice versa.

From there you can walk past the site of the old Pilgrims Cross, which apparently was a huge affair but now sadly long gone. Here's my sunny rosewood lambsfoot shot for the day.

You know what, I reckon it is! I'm not aware of Wigan being twinned with Canmore, but stranger things have happened
It does doesn't it! Never being a reader of comics I spent days racking my brains trying to think what it reminded me of before I remembered the film with Jessica Alba in itThat or Terminator 2
Of course the Wigan one is incomplete. The artist mustn't of been familiar with the locality otherwise he'd of included a generous sprinkling of pie and sausage roll crumbs around it's base
Two delicious morsels thereThe finished product made me hungry all over again.
Ahhh...sorry it's actual name then is 'Buddha's Hand'. Sorry I worked in the London fresh produce markets for a few years. Fruit and veg came in from all over the world but I cannot recall ever seeing such an unusual fruit. Thanks for posting that![]()
Thanks, Jack, he's finally getting a decent "tan."![]()
