Jack Black Jack Black what's the story with that fountain coming out of that rock?

I had the same question pop into my head, it reminded me of a local spring in NH where folks would bring jugs and get water when I was a younger person.

I don't know Taylor, not passed that way before. I wasn't following it, but it was on a waymarked trail with a numbered marker close by, so I will have to investigate

It turns out it's called Dog Mouth Spring, the rock is sandstone and porous. Apparently it once had a dog's head carved into the rock, with the water flowing from the mouth, but it has worn away over time. There was also once a metal drinking cup attached to the rock by a chain.

Jack, it looks like you have Leprechauns :eek:I'm looking at the wee door by the rock.

Yes indeed! :D

Jack, that's very interesting!

Thanks Taylor, it's amazing how fast you can get to the bottom of a mystery with the internet these days! I wonder how clean the water is? It's quite an interesting area, originally being gifted by William the Conqueror to one of his cohorts as a Deer Park. I spotted quite a few sweet chestnut trees, so I'll definitely be heading back there next fall ;)

Yeah if it's a natural spring it most likely would be fine to drink!
