Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

These are not my photo`s, I have ordered a few of these they come in a pouch, and the quality look nice(will know better when they arrive), they are most likely made in China and are only 7Cr17MOV which equivalent for 440A

The Outdoor Edge Lambsfoot has parallel edges, but is a nice little starter knife I think. They are certainly made in China, but it's interesting that Outdoor Edge chose the design. Thanks for the pics

I think this is the nicest I've seen Dylan :) The pile side of my own is completely lacklustre.

Traditionally, Wright's didn't take much notice of the pile sides, putting aside the best horn for the mark sides only. In fact, the 2017 Guardians Lambsfoot was the first they ever made up with a 'Double-A Side' ;)

Ahhh....the cloud parts! so is that why my horn lambsfoot has such mismatched covers? Personally it doesn't bother me, but it would be nice if they offered you the choice of matching or non-matching covers, regardless of whether it was the A or B grade stuff.
It's not just the horn covered knives though. My A.Wright stag ettrick has mismatched covers to.

Yes, David, they were good times....when the work was over and it was supper time ooh my, :p the food upon the table.:thumbsup:

Oh no for us it was either a spud or two cooked in the coals of the inevitable bonfire, or doorstep buttys smothered in half an inch of butter then smothered again in "meat mound"; a mystery meat pate like food substance that my gran bought off Leigh market :D

Nice photos of the old tractors. Those Fergusons were pretty good and they and Ford were a little ahead of their time . Did you know that International Harvester made the tractors in Doncaster ?? I used to enjoy visiting there on business .

Harry

Thanks Harry, no I didn't know that. A lot of our tractors in this country were a throw-back to the preparation for WWII. Well into the 1930's many British farms were still using Shire horses for motive power. I think my dad grew up (post-1945) driving a Fordson and many farms had them as Ford approached the British Government in 1938 with an offer to build tractors under a financing deal. They were built at a factory in Dagenham in Essex, and one in Cork in Ireland.
That may be the one I have a recollection of him explaining to me that you started it with a blank charge that you had to hit with a hammer?? :D
A later model perhaps.

Do you ever ask for a lettuce leaf to satisfy your vegetable cravings??

Very cool Farmall pic (and other pics of tractors and other farm machinery), David!:thumbsup::cool: I'd guess most of my tractor hours were driving a Farmall H, raking hay or pulling wagons loaded with hay or straw bales and stacking the bales in the barn or pulling wagons loaded with haylage or corn silage and blowing it into silos. Our main tractor when I started was a Farmall M. My Dad usually drove that for mowing hay, baling hay (my youngest brother usually drove with my Dad on the wagon behind the baler), pulling the combine, running the corn picker, plowing, etc. We also had a little Allis Chalmers that we used for cultivating corn and general towing. When times got really busy we sometimes borrowed a little old Massey Ferguson from one of my grandfathers. At some point, my Dad bought a brand new Case 630 as our "big" tractor!

Since I restricted myself to ebony lambsfoot models in this post, I suppose I shouldn't post Cracker Jack photos here. Here's my 2018 GELF:

Thanks GT, not been a tractor rally for awhile now. :( Sounds like you had a much larger farm than ours . Two tractors (plus the combine) sufficed for harvest of arable crops. Though as late as the 1960's my dad (and many farms in general) would harvest the grass crop the old fashioned way. The crop would be forked into a hay wain, then that would pull up beside the steam powered thresher. They then stood on top of the thresher and forked it into the top.
Oh and in answer to your lettuce query.
Errr....no.... :D

I've visited England twice now, and several pubs each time, and I've not yet tried one of those pork pies. When Jack and I were walking around Sheffield, I remember seeing them at The Fat Cat (and theirs looked pretty good), but we were already having lunch there.

I don't want to get reprimanded for not posting any Lambsfoot content, so here's my Ashley's Choice along with my new Big 'Un that Jack recently gifted me.

L09U1Ob.jpg

That Big 'Un is a prime example of what Jack was saying about Wright's only putting the premium horn on the mark side of the knife, and not bothering to even attempt matching the pile side. While that mark side horn is a lovely creamy caramel, the back side is just plain black. :D

You'll be talking about these pies then...

Yes, there excellent. Even better after several Yorkshire ales...

This J. McClory was in my mailbox when we got home today. Tracking still shows it in France:confused: I wasn't expecting it so it was a very nice surprise. Took it 12 days which isn't bad but I was starting to worry with no tracking updates. It's a big un at 4 1/16". I'm guessing 1880 ish. The flush joint is a nice surprise, sellers pictures didn't reveal it:thumbsup::thumbsup: hand carved bones covers. :) rock solid old knife:thumbsup: no blade play and a nice strong pull and snap:thumbsup:

Oh that's stunning, and a real size to, like a proper English Jack knife should be. Great find

Going to try and do a run in smooth white camel bone at some point Will

That would be great Jack! If it looked anything like Rob's 19th century acquisition above I'd be up for that!

Hope everyone's having a nice Sunday .

I don't mind mismatched cover... as long as the mark side has the better cover.
This seems very traditional and I accept Jack's explanation that the makers want to stretch their stock of nice material.
What I can't tolerate is when they put the nice stuff on the pile side. I've got a Case with very nice pile side stag and a very smooth and plain mark side. That always makes me scratch my head and wonder why they'd do that, especially on a knife with a shield. Probably because it's easier to set a shield in smooth material... Lazy Buggers :D

I think they are still learning about some things David

Them's the ones! :D I did offer to buy Barrett one, but as we had just ordered lunch, and only eaten breakfast an hour or so before, he may have thought I was being a bit greedy! :D ;)

I doubt it'd have the character of Rob's, but hopefully it might look quite nice

Good pic :D

Good morning (or afternoon/evening, as the case may be), Guardians!

Mentioned I was going to a hockey game last night. [Although knives were not allowed at the game, there will be knife content.] It was a blast. My daughter enjoys the hockey games much more than the baseball.
32847051758_1d1fa3bad5_h.jpg

It sure is a fast-paced game. We had a couple of fights (nothing like the Hanson brothers!):

45806531435_f4b7f4e17d_h.jpg

Another thing I like about hockey is that not only are the players allowed to fight some, the fights are replayed on the big screen. They even had a montage of previous fights to the delight of the crowd.
32847048838_93dd96b6fa_h.jpg

They did something weird last night, which I had not seen before (hadn't been to a game in a year or two): they had a "minute of madness" where the crowd was supposed to scream at the top of their lungs.

Yes, Jack, that is the "Whataburger" where your "What-a-Knife" came from! (I know it was a joke by @r8shell). ;)
My favorite part was the Zamboni cleaning the ice between periods:

Of course, you have to drink beer at these games:
45806530115_d87d30af69_b.jpg

Yes, that's Budweiser. Not much to choose from. No Guiness or Samuel Smith. Not even Samuel Adams. (Had a Dos XX too.)
Cheers!
The home team won 3-2 with 46.5 seconds left in the sudden death overtime period.

I won't derail the thread by telling you about the Irish language translation/continuation of Geoffrey's History of the Kings of Britain that contains a flabbergasting amount of information about the Picts.

I thought folks might like to watch this fairly recent interview with Stan Shaw (the blue-handled file next to his vice is one of the ones I've given him) :)

Excellent interview, Jack, thanks for posting it ! That video led me to this one that I found very interesting.
Oh, those Fred videos are gold! I have already watched 3-4 episodes.

What a great pic Kevin, you're making me hungry! :D  I'm also carrying my ebony '18 today :) The weekend is nearly here folks

Plenty of good tacos around these parts but, ya know, I can't find a proper meat pie to save my life.
Your '18 is looking well loved. Nice strop, btw.

Intoxicating. My fave in tacos is grilled fish and duck fixed just like those with lime and mango habanero sauce.
Here I was feelin' high brow because they put a slice of pineapple on my pastor (pork) tacos. ;):D

FBC, your 2018 Guardians Ebony Lambsfoot (hereafter in my post called "2018 GELF") is looking both delicious AND nutritious!:thumbsup:;)
High in iron, that's for sure. :D
Those tacos were so good I had to go and get more yesterday....and I might go today too, different taco truck though because variety is the spice of life.:D
"GELF", I like it! Soon we will need a Guardian's glossary thread. :D

Thanks Kevin, Stan once told me he changed the lock on his workshop door because he'd caught Ken Hawley taking a short-cut through it. He didn't want him taking a shine to his tools and wandering off with them! :D

I'd trade for tacos for sure :) Thank you my friend, it's a wee pocket model, I find it quite handy

Cool pic there  Enjoy your tacos Kevin

Isn’t a Lambsfoot with parallel edges just a sheepsfoot? o_O :D

Say, have either of you gents been to “Britain’s most remote pub”?

LOL! :D Yes, it is really, though there's one or two I think I'd give a pass to. I think the parallel edges come about most commonly because makers don't understand the pattern, and I guess with the inexpensive ones, it's a lot easier to make a knife with a parallel edge and spine  Not that my Davison was cheap! :D

'Next trip'?! I like the sound of that my friend :)

Is that the Tan Hill Inn? David has posted pics from there I think

Thanks for posting those! Looked like a great game. I don't understand the rules actually but ice hockey is one of two sports I've actually got the patience to watch :D:thumbsup: Mainly for the fights. It's like two sports in one; ice hockey with free wrestling thrown in now and then .
Not sure about that funny looking 'beer' though :D

Something tells me I wouldn't find him sat in the Fat Cat chomping a pork pie... :D

That's what I always thought to. Following the Roman withdrawal from Britain the Romano-Brits (specifically a King called Vortigen) invited Anglo-Saxon mercenaries over to help defend against raids from the Scots (from Ireland) and the Picts (from Scotland). Unfortunately they liked what they found and the rest, as they say, is history.:)

Thanks for posting that Barrett. No, I've been close, funnily enough on the ferry shown, but I've never actually been in. We used to spend a lot of time up on the west coast of Scotland and went to Skye a lot. The ferry from Mallaig goes over to....Armadale?? on the southern coast of Skye.
The Tan Hill Inn Jack mentioned is I think England's remotest pub. It's in North Yorkshire.
