Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I’m guessing there’s some sort of legal technicality behind that being labeled “Navy Spirit Drink” and not “Navy Rum”?
56ouCEE.jpg

I’ve wondered that myself but I’m not sure. It’s not expensive but I do love it, just dark enough to get a hint of molasses but not overpowering.

Terrific Steve 😊👍
Moshi moshi, Guardians.

I went bowling with the senior league yesterday and, to my utter astonishment (and not a little bit of horror), received the results of last week's meet declaring that my team had placed first overall - earning me a tidy fifteen bucks along with dark and stormy glances from some of the old timers (perhaps some clarification is in order as they're all "old" you see -- it's a senior's league, but in this case I'm referring to people who have a long history with the league).

I imagine that if my team keeps winning, somebody might bring up the glaring issue of my ineligibility on the basis of my not-yet-advanced-enough age. I'm not certain whether that would be a blessing or a curse. In the meantime, I've got fifteen shekels burning a hole in my pocket and I'm on the prowl for more.

In other news, I've struck up a friendship with a gentleman at the bowling alley who is in the process of teaching me, week by week, to sling the ball down lane without use of the holes. I would describe the method as as unorthodox as it is powerful. Just wait till those old geezers get a whiff of what I'm cooking!!! HA HA HAAAA!!!

I'm a good shot with a pistol or rifle, but it doesn't make me a damn bit better at bowling. That's how the picture is related to the text. I didn't know it was gonna work out that way until just now, so I'm as surprised as you are.

Excelsior, Guardians!
Rinse 'em while you can Will! 🤣 Great pic 👍 There's a case here some years ago, where a young lad of about 10 took to Crown Green Bowling, the traditional pursuit of a section of OAPs here. Having better eyesight, and knees, he was doing quite well, until the old sods changed the rules, and kicked the lad out 🤨
Looking good Mitch 😊👍
Great stag Paul 👍
Smashing pic Steve 😊👍
Posted this guy up in the horn thread and realized it more importantly should be here. Also I don't think I've ever taken the time to thank everyone for the kind words on the lambfoot knife project. It was an absolute pleasure and a heck of a lot of fun working on that one. Hope everyone's having fun with 'em!

Eric

Good luck guardians.
Great pic (and wonderful generosity) Bob 😊 Don't go spoiling these guys! 😁😉👍

A colorful Charlie.

Nice ! 👍

It’s getting that way here. Apparently there’s a fair bit of bird flu around and they’ve really culled flock sizes, lots of empty shelves in the supermarket. When I bought the last lot of pullets a couple came with a flu. I gave them medication for a few days and they came good 🙂

I don’t really do the numbers with pull, too subjective for me. I will say it’s perfect for what I like. A firm yet smooth pull into half and full stop. One thing I really like is that he recessed the blade well into the knife. My biggest gripe with knives are proud tips. Despite this it’s still pinchable and no blade rap when I let it shut.

It looks very well made !

I've already had a discussion about these with Paul, and find them very interesting. I doubt they had much to do with Winchester though, not as most of us think of the company! :D Great to see those two together buddy :)

That was my first thought, though I was thinking Rodgers parts, rather than Rodgers made. Maybe something Jim Parker picked up on his looting sprees travels to Sheffield ;)

It's a possibility Paul, Rodgers ended up being owned by Richards, who always had a relationship with Richartz. Not that I'd necessarily put them at their door, but that was a period of unlikely, and sometimes nefarious, activity

Very interesting, thanks for the history
👍

Good morning Guardians, having wasted 15 minutes waiting to get online, I'm now running out of time, as I'm going to make a dash to York on the train. Hopefully I can get caught up while I'm travelling ;) I hope everyone's well, and that you have a great day :) As I'm going to pick up a flat cap for Charlie, it seemed appropriate to carry a flat cap Lamb FROM Charlie :) Sadly, I still can't wear my cap, but the noggin is healing

Have a nice trip to York !

Looker Steve 😊👍
Morning Guardians, Berry is riding the RFP this morning and has already cut a bagel and opened a large box. Just enjoying some coffee with BFC, now.

Berry is always a treat to see 😊👍
I’ve always found those Sheldon knives really interesting.
Me too Barrett. They were popular when I was younger, but then seemed to disappear. I'm glad we were able to discover more about them 👍
I know you’ve shared videos of that event in years past, and I still have no idea what exactly is going on. I do know that I’m not interested in participating. 😁
I think the rules are you grab hold of the ball, and punch anyone who tries to take it off you! 😱😁 When I was at skool, we used to play a game called Murderball, which has similar rules, and is best associated with juvenile prisons of the 1960's and 70's! 😁 The gym teacher just used to lock us in the basketball court, and return at the end of the class! 🫣
I think your modified Lent period seems more than reasonable. 😁
Thanks Barrett, I didn't even get my pancakes this year! 🤔😁👍
Bill Bailey is great. I think I may have mentioned watching Black Books for the first time a while back, and of course, we can’t forget Bill’s role in a Guardians’ favorite. 😁

I actually have a mate who looks like Bill Bailey, but without the hair! 🤣
Thanks again for doing the Guardians knives for us, Eric! I think it’s safe to say they were a hit!:thumbsup:
Definitely! 😎👍
Good looking horn there, actually reminds me a bit of the first Guardians SFOs that Jack had done.

I thought the same 😊👍
Morning Guardians! Another beautiful day out there. Hope y'all have a good one 👍🤠

Sounds like you have had a long day Jack. Hope you can get a good night's sleep tonight 😴
Thanks pal, I fell into a deep sleep for 2 hours, then woke up! 😖
Glad there is light at the end of the tunnel Jack.
Thanks Bob 😊👍
Looking super in the sun! 😊👍
Happy hump day, Guardians! Took a walk with this gal for lunch today.

Sweet Steve 😊👍

Perhaps you are right Jack, toolman is looking at retirement.
Hope you can have a relaxing day tomorrow.👍🏻
Realistically, I think he is Bob. He is talking about moving into selling other items, such as pocket watches and pocket knives, but he has less sense than his old tools, and his customers resent even paying £1 for anything. He could make a living if he put some thought into it, but he thinks 'thought' is a 4 letter word! 😖
One of the design details that I really like about the HHBs (and that I've never seen anyone on here mention) is how the spine of the blade is a continuation of the line of the backspring, and the edge is a continuation of the line from the bottom edge of the grip. It's essentially two lines converging, briefly punctuated by the kick, and then cutoff where the nose of the blade turns down. It's a very clean design - and this picture pretty much fails to capture this, but I'd love it if more lambs used this overall profile.

Thank you Tyson, it's small details like that that make all the difference 👍

Cool stuff pic! 😁
Agree with you, that is a beautiful design. I also am very fond of the lines of a knife with a slight swayback, very elegant to my mind. What is really like is a definite taper to the blade. I have to look close on some lambs to see the taper of the blade.

Classic Lamb 😎 I know what you mean Dan, and while that is not necessarily a new thing, we have seen a number of custom Lambs (or awful mods) in recent years, where the maker clearly doesn't understand the pattern, or bothered to research it 🙄
A perfectly splendid day in sunny South Florida - 77°F, a caressing breeze, and not a cloud in the sky. These are the days for which we South Floridians trudge, mewl, and slump through the rest of the year. It will drop down to 61°F tonight which, all things considered, ain't too shabby either.

Gentle zephyrs force the palm trees to whisper in accompaniment to the barks of spring-mad squirrels, the shrieks of raiding Blue Jays, and the tittering of nesting Cardinals. The Bougainvillea is in full bloom - a slow-motion fireworks show of reds, purples, pinks, and whites. Monarch butterflies are laying eggs on the Calamondin tree while Gulf Frittilaries eat their fill of wild yellow passionflower vines. It's only a matter of time before I hear the impatient chirps of the young Chimney Swifts which hatch, with perfect regularity, in a recess above my front door.

In a few months, when I'm back to griping about the heat - remind me of these days. Also, take a note that if you plan to visit South Florida, it's best to do so in the Spring.

Sure is 🙂👍

Apparently the price of Guinness has gone through the roof of Ireland! 😱 Cheers buddy 👍
Big day today, had to take Charlie to a hospital appointment in Melbourne (he’s fine).

Took my trusty huntsman out to collect the eggs.

Glad Charlie is ok mate 🙂 When I first knew Tool Man, he used to keep a few hens. I don't know what happened to them, they probably got sick of listening to his twaddle! 🤣

My situation may very well be the sequel to this disturbing tale!! 😂

Another great pic 😎👍

Thanks, Jack! I try to make them worth the Guardians's while.

Congratulations Will 👍

I don't think I've pulled out at a win yet (this ain't bowling, after all!! 🤣), but if I do - I'll accept your sentiment in advance! Thanks again, Jack!

Cool stuff pic! 😁

It's funny how a small subset of the hoard can be visually appealing while in its totality; it's just a, as the Cubans down here say, "arroz con mango" or "rice with mango" or "a big bloody mess!" 😂

You just lowered my blood pressure Will! 😁 Great pic too 🙂👍

Grateful to be of service, my friend. Many thanks.

Having been freed up from work today, I thought I better head off on my mission to York. I had decided to go on the train, but even while I was on my way to the station my day started to go sour. Checking my email, I found that I had one from the company (Booking.com) I had made reservations for one of the hotels on my birthday trip away, a swanky place in the English Lake District. According to the email, the booking had been cancelled due to an error with my credit card. I knew there was no problem with my card, so I rang the hotel. Fortunately, the hotel were very understanding, and didn't want to turn away £500+ out of season. They told me that my original booking had gone through a travel agent in Holland, for some reason. So sod Booking.com, and I'll pay the hotel in cash if they want! 🙄

I let Matt and Wolfie know, but Wolfie sent a reply to us both, which may be the start of him weaseling out of our trip 🤨

I managed to get a fast train to York, but by the time I arrived it was raining steadily. This attractive old bridge in York station is where I took a tumble the other month, something I've still not recovered from. Trying to take a pic, I discovered that not only was my camera battery flat, but also the spare! 😖 All photos are therefore taken on my phone 🙄

IMG_20250313_105328_MP.jpg

I headed into the city centre, and crossed the River Ouse.

IMG_20250313_110355_HDR~2.jpg
Since it was chucking it down, and it was nearby, I decided to head straight to the gentleman's outfitters, and pick up Charlie's cap, where I got an old-fashioned fleecing 🙄

IMG_20250313_111345_HDR~2.jpg

The weather was miserable, and the antique centre I went to was closed. I headed to the market, but there was nothing of interest there. I next went to Barnitt's hardware store, which once sold Lambsfoot knives.

There are a lot of good restaurants in York, but many of them were still closed, and I wasn't really hungry. I walked around for a bit, but nowhere caught my eye. Eventually, I decided I'd get a chip butty at the place I last went to with Duncan.

IMG_20250313_121617_MP.jpg

I called in another antique shop, but there wasn't anything of interest there, so I decided to make my way back to the station, calling for a coffee on the way.

I walked past the pub that Dutch idiot has ruined 🤨

IMG_20250313_110200_MP~2.jpg

Unfortunately, I just missed a train to Leeds, and while that one took only 20 minutes, the next few took an hour and ten! I decided to get one anyway, rather than just hang around in the station for an hour. At least the slow route is attractive, but the weather was so bad, I barely saw a thing 🙄

Sounds like a slog, Jack. On the upside, a lovely capture of the river and I think that wonderful street shot is only enhanced by the rain. Striking shade of purple on the otherworldly spider's web engulfing that building. Serious Ungoliant vibes. 🕸️🕷️🕸️🧙‍♂️

Hopefully the speed bumps were smoothed by that fine traveling lamb. She's an elegant machine. Sorry to read that you're still dealing with the aftermath of the bridge incident. Here's to continued recovery - faster and better than before!

Dead camera batteries are the very worst. I've become a little bit obsessive about keeping mine charged up as they're old, no longer operating at peak performance, and I don't feel like buying new ones. I have an adapter that would allow me to run the camera off a bunch of AA batteries but it adds significant weight to the total package and I've never been much for burdening myself unless strictly necessary 😂. Nice option to have though, I guess.
