Nice sharpening set-up.
Thanks Leon, makes it easier.Nice sharpening set-up.
I used to grind my beans, but in the past couple of years I've gone back to mainly drinking coffee when I'm out, which meant I was throwing away beans. I finally surrendered and bought a Lavazza pod machine at Xmas, but I'm underwhelmed by the coffee. I start my day with a mug of Yorkshire tea, with milk, and then usually I'll get coffee at Charlie's Cafe down the road, and then maybe a second cup in town. Then I'll probably have another cup of tea at home later. Some days, I don't drink coffee, and don't really notice any side-effects, and I have given it up completely in the past. A good coffee is a treat for me, and enjoy having it in the nearby cafe, where the coffee is always excellentI seem to have made that pot extra strong. I feel great!
So who needs caffeine withdrawal?
I guess part of the reason I was thinking of quitting coffee is that I've gone back to the percolator, which works better with a coarser grind, which costs more than drip grind and is not easy to find. I bought a small bag of beans to coarse-grind myself, but it's ridiculous to me how expensive whole beans are. (I realize there are those for whom fresh grinding is a necessity, but I was blessed with a less sensitive palate.)

Great pics Steve
That's a lot of caffeine Tyson! In my late 20s my caffeine consumption was something like this: 2 or 3 quad mochas (each was 4 shots of espresso) in the morning, a pot or two of coffee during the day at work, chased by a pool-sized Mountain Dew with lunch, a couple of cups of black tea in the afternoon, all washed down by a 2-liter bottle of Mountain Dew after work. Oddly enough, I never slept particularly well, but I just thought it was my ninja-like reflexes waking me up whenever I heard any random sound.
Then I gave up caffeine for Lent one year, and the first two weeks were brutal. Raging headache non-stop for the first couple of weeks and my feet and hands swelled up a bit. Then, about two weeks in, I felt great and slept like a baby. After Lent ended I resumed coffee, but now it's very rare for me to drink anything but decaf coffee. Most tea I drink is decaf - there are a few varietals where I just can't get a decaf version, but I tread very lightly with those. Very rarely do I drink soda, and when I do it's a no-caffeine type. And, oddly enough, I continue to sleep much better now than I did a few decades ago.
Same here, used to really enjoy sitting down to a good coffee and watching the world go by, but everything has it's limitations and 31/2 to 4 quid pulled me up. And is only going to keep rising. I can make a very reasonable cup at home for 2 bob with my Aldi pod machine. Had a lot worse in cafes.A good coffee is a treat for me, and enjoy having it in the nearby cafe, where the coffee is always excellent
A day of lolligagging with L'Ariete, enjoy Jack.Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone has made it through the week in good form. The good weather continues here, and it's supposed to be in the mid 80's or higher. I nearly went to the cinema yesterday, but one movie had just started, another wasn't showing for hours, and there was nothing on I was bothered about seeing (mainly stuff for the kids). I do need to do some stuff at home, but generally I plan to have an easy day today, possibly meeting up with Wolfie at some point. I keep thinking I should go somewhere!Hope you have a great day Guardians. I've got L'Ariete in my pocket

The extra strong pot of coffee in the late afternoon was definitely a mistake. I'll have just a cup or two this morning to keep the headaches at bay.
We have dangerous heat starting tomorrow and lasting through Tuesday. Highs in the mid 90s with "real feel" over 100, and lows not much below 80.
I'm letting in the sub-70 morning air now.
I might be taking an extra half gallon of water to work.I'm sharing your pain with the heat Jer.
I think I will transition to iced coffee during the day.
