I remember, I hope things are a lot better for her nowIt has really become routine. My wife had both eyes done at the beginning of the year.
That doesn't sound like fun!We got lucky this year. We left early yesterday and had smooth sailing on 210 from near San Bernardino to the I-5 junction. Going north on I-5 we ran into a few traffic jams but not too bad.
A few years ago I was visiting my mother near St George. I-15 to Vegas was fine, but then it got ugly. At the California border there was 11 miles of stopped traffic, and over the next 110 miles of driving across the desert (with no significant on ramps or off ramps, literally the middle of nowhere) it was an endless series of stops and then getting up to about 45 before stopping again. No accidents, just half of the LA basin going home from Vegas. Once we got on 58 in Barstow it was fine until we got to Kramer Junction. This was before the overpass was built and there was a stop light at the intersection of 58 and 395. There was a line of cars eight miles long at that light and it took us an hour just to get through that one light. Once we got to 99 in Bakersfield (after passing through @Horsewright’s town of Tehachapi) we had a lot of slowdowns until we got home in Visalia. What should have been an eight hour drive took twelve hours. Never again. Now when I visit my mother on a holiday weekend I wait until Monday morning to drive home.
I’m still peeved that CHP didn’t put an officer at Kramer Junction to wave traffic through. There was zero backup and very light traffic on 395, all the traffic was on 58.
But that was short compared to my trips to the Philippines. 18 hours would be very fast. One time it took 36 hours to get from my wife’s home town to our home in Visalia.
Good luck JeffThanks for the commiseration, Dave and Barrett. My wife is flying back this evening and encountering some delays of her own. Won't get in until after midnight.
Guess who gets to drive 60 miles round trip to pick her up.
I used Roper to open a week's worth of mail tonight after getting home from work. Hold Mail sure makes for a headache when you return!

Must have been a strong wind Mitch!
