Good grief John, that sounds like a very unpleasant journey, particularly for a man in military uniform. Nonetheless, I am pleased that you were able to have fish and chips in a sheet of newspaper, and to visit the Imperial War Museum (it was 1978 before I was able to visit for the first time myself). By coincidence, an old friend I met up with when I was in London, lives in a residential care home next to the Imperial War Museum. The museum was actually built above the historic Bedlam lunatic asylum, and apparently the old cells still exist underneath the museum. Where my friend, also John, lives, in the garden, there is a sign marking the boundary wall of the asylum. I was the subject of a film, which was shown in the museum a few years ago, but have not visited for many years. However, I hope to visit before too long, and will try to take some photos :thumbsup:

I was in civilian clothes so no problem there. Would like to see the museum again, IF I did not have to travel half way around there world to get there. John
