Went to another hockey game last night. Skunked the Odessa Jackalopes 5 to 1!

Beautiful knife! Glad your team won!

As you probably realise, the Wright's website is not run by them, never has been, and could do with a lot of work on it. The photos are old, and so unrepresentative of the stag (and ebony) they're generally using nowadays. With the Indian government's ban on exports of Sambar stag, they're only able to get hold of it in limited quantities, and it's generally reserved for special projects such as the Ashley's Choice knives

Thanks Dennis, it seems like a distant memory now ;)

I've enjoyed all the beers I've had of theirs Taylor :) Torpedo is a bit of an 'Old Friend', about 10 years ago, the manager of a bar I used to frequent got hold of a load of cut-price stock, and sold it to the regulars at a real bargain price. We all drank it for months, and when the cheap stock went up, and we had to either stop drinking it or pay three times the price for the regular stock, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth :( ;)

That's sterling research GT :) I find it bizarre that, when it comes to knife-related stuff, my memory is no worse than average - with everything else it's absolutely terrible!

Cool photo Taylor, you definitely got one of the champs there

Sorry about that :( I basically got back from Sheffield, removed all the knives from their individual plastic bags, took pics, put them back in the bags, and started shipping. In retrospect, I wish I'd at least waited for some daylight, as many of the knives look very dull in the group shots

Clearly a memorable game! :D

Con amore! :D I'm glad it made it GT, I also like the 'contour lines', it looks good :) Thanks for the kind words my friend

It's not like you to be at the bottom of the class GT! :D ;)

And to yours my friend :)

Sounds like your Lambsfoot has done a good day's work Greg :) Next time you're on a team building exercise would you mind pausing at various points to take a few pics of your Lambsfoot please? ;) :D

Congratulations Vince

Morning Guardians, hope you're all having a great weekend :) I've still got a few things to do in the house today, but hoping to get out later to get some exercise, and maybe get something to eat (I haven't had my orders yet ). Have a lovely Sunday folks

Jack, I do recall reading previous posts from you that Wright’s website is run by someone else. I received a hand written note with my order from from him and he did also mention that to me. Their website is in desperate need of an upgrade.

I think many unsuspecting prospective buyers would be sorely disappointed by what they received based on that, along with this thread. This place is filled with the jewels coming out of that factory and I doubt it represents their run of the mill stuff accurately.

I actually did a pretty broad web search to see what Wright’s general stag offerings look like. Definitely not Sambar but I actually like the Pere David antler. It’s something different and makes these knives even more unique in my collection.

I would love to see more handle material options, especially ram horn, but that doesn’t seem too likely. That ivory of yours is stunning!

Interestingly enough, I came across a Facebook page by A. Wright & Sons. I don’t have an account there but there is mentions of this thread there with direct links.

Any time.
No need to look it up and verify!

Rose Beast on a questionable uke-building idea.

Love the patina with that rosewood!

Good morning Guardians, knowing that I have missed some in this post, I apologize. Hope your weekend is bright and sunny like here.

Now that's a Lambsfoot:D Well photographed and good looking!

Every time I see this Ashley's Choice, I go into green with envy mode:).

Another great photo, Taylor, Hope it's not to early for those buds to make through any frost/

GT, congratulations, on those two, The Ironwood, like all of these is spectacular.

Nice photo, Vince, glad your team won. You certainly have a winner in that knife.

More, more, and more. Want more of that exquisite knife!!

Interesting, I want to see that build at various stages. Rose Beast looks like she is in control of the situation...I'd leave it up to her.

Beautiful shot of your ironwood!

Happy sunday guardians! It's the beginning of my work week :( More of the white stuff falling.

Lil patina started.

Sorry to hear you have to go back to work, but at least you have a nice patina starting!

After a dry spell of hardly any new knives for the past year, I decided to sell several to fund new purchases. I’ve received so many knives in the past couple of weeks that I’m almost overwhelmed.... looks like the sun will be out today so I should be able to get some better shots of my new ironwood. In the meantime, here’s some more Pere David.

I’m sure it would drive some people crazy, but I love the asymmetrical stag on this one. Makes it melt into my hand!

Yes Steve, it really needs re-vamping, they are losing a lot of potential custom I think. I've raised this with them many times, and am hoping that there will be some improvements this year. Was it Paul who sent out your order, he's a nice guy?

The Facebook page is also not run by Wright's! Though it is run on their behalf.

I would love to see ram's horn on a Lambsfoot, but that will only happen on a special order I think. Thank you for the kind words on my Yorkshire Rose ;)

The Pere David stag has its own character, and you have 3 nice examples there I think. That's a nice pattern you have with you today

If you go into any British 'Garden Centre', there's a good chance that you'll find a few inexpensive knives marked 'CK'. CK stands for Carl Kammerling, a German company, who have had knives made for them in Italy for decades. Older Kammerling knives can be of decent quality, but like many manufacturers, their standards have declined over the years. Their current production 'Real Lamb Foot' has been discussed here before, not least because it is not a Lambsfoot at all, and is as cheap and nasty is it gets. This is a slightly older CK Lambsfoot, it's poorly made, with cheap plastic covers, and a heavily canted blade, but still better than the one they make today though. A Lambsfoot made by a German company, in Italy, primarily for the British market

I actually kinda like those canted blades! Maybe simply because they are not that common...

Many thanks for your consideration Steve  Those look like three nice ones. That's Wright's regular stag, mostly Pere David, it's less dense than Sambar, but can look nice too. Here's a pic showing a piece of Sambar (on the left) and a piece of Pere David

Reading through the entire thread I came across several posts mentionning Pere David stag - I had never heard of that species before! Interesting animal, with an interesting history. But I was wondering why Wright used those kind of antlers instead of antlers from red deer? Those can have really interesting textures, even though they are still a lot more porous than Sambar antlers.

M Mescladis ; is it the type of wound you can "dress" with super-glue?

I actually never used that method! I use either honey, clay or a sap from South America called "sangre de drago" (brought back to me by someone who went to Ecuador). They all work great and have antiseptic and antibacterial properties :)

My almond tree things it's spring. Starting to show some budding.

I don't blame him, I think it's spring too! Everything is early this year - birds have started to sing 2 weeks earlier for example.

With regard to Wright quality levels. I was in the Famous Sheffield Shop yesterday and handled about 20 Wright knives. They were all of a good standard of fit and finish. I was really impressed though admittingly I did not look too carefully at the stag as a really don't care for it on a knife handle..
