What knives are you interested in that might be kind of oddball products?

I've been eyeballing this one forever it seems:

I'm often interested in little cheapo novelty switchblades , they're fun and kind of cool, and genrally under $5.
I've only got one left now, but I like to play with it every once in a while.

There’s two clones I have ashemedly been interested in.

One is an integral strider clone I have been eyeing but won’t buy because it goes against my no clones policy. However I continue to torture myself as it has no Strider branding on it.

The other one is a clone of this knife a custom of which only two were made called the Snecx.

It can be disassembled like a firearm with no tools putting it in a small catagory of “field strippable” knives along with the Crkt Homefront style knives and the Koenig Zenaida.

Apparently both clones are extremely well built but luckily any time I am becoming weak I look at the prices on these clones which are so high I will never pay that ammount for a clone. Not that I would buy them if they were cheap anyway.

But that integral strider in particular tempts me.

I'm a sucker for these odd knives from CRKT. The Hitchcock Hole In One and the Van Hoy Snap Lock. They operate on the same principle, with a lever attached to the blade spreading apart the "wishbone" shaped frame and allowing the blade to rotate out, then the frame snapping back and locking the blade in place. The Hole In One is a joy to use and very fast, while the Snap Lock is a bit more awkward but still fun and interesting.

On a side note, I've wanted CRKT to bring back the Hole In One for a long time and they finally kinda sorta did, only they made it 2/3 the size, cut a bunch of huge holes in the blade, and added a totally unnecessary lock.:( Like they say, be careful what you wish for. :D

I just bought a Max Knives Fred Perrin Tri-folder.

I don't know the clone but it's kind of hard to believe that it actually mimics the Snecx. They'd have to have gotten their hands on one to reverse engineer what is by every report a really complex design.

I'm often drawn to any design with a Perrin hole, and these dinky little two-finger deals are no exception. I see them fairly frequently on my Instagram feed. Overpriced, I think, and I don't know what steel they use. But the heart wants them!

My guiltiest pleasure is that I love the styling of Quartermaster knives. Hate Jared West, hate the whole company, but their designs spark my latent mall ninja geek. Wish a legit company would use similar designs modified to actually make some sense (just be heavily stylized).

Have you practiced a few tricks with your trifolder? You can flip it open and shut sort of like a balisong. However the variety of tricks you can do with the Perrin trifolder are limited vs ones designed like the cold steel trifolder. This is because the outermost handle piece completely covers the other pieces when it closes over it unlike the cold steel style which only closes over half of their trifolder. Try youtube searching trifolder knife tricks and you can see some videos on the types of tricks you can do with each kind.

Here is mine.

I highly recommend you copy this mod I did on mine where I glued a strip of credit card here on the inside because the tip and edge tend to strike this area alot. A little strip of cork board works too.

Btw here is the real Snecx IFS-20 field stripped all done without tools. The parts interlock like a firearm which is what the creator was going for.

Here is the clone beginning to be stripped.

Here is the clone taken down in the same way.

There were only like three of the original made and I think two were kept by the maker and one sold to a collector in an auction for almost $10,000. Well it looks like that maker was somehow involved in the cloning market.

Dude tell me about it. The Perrin La Griffe style knives are an all time favourite for me when it comes to tiny fixed blades. You should check out a Brous Silent Soldier as they double very well as a utility knife whereas the original Perrin designs are primarily self defense knives.

Here’s my little collection.

Heh. I've already started blunting the tip trying to flip the thing closed. :)

Unbelieveable. -_-
