gulp...i own a new rat-5 from ontario

Knife cultists are a good thing. Belonging to more than denomination makes it even better. I too drink at the fountain of all those you listed above. Good Kool-aid!

Variety adds spice to life. I enjoy Rat Cutlery, Ranger knives, and Bark River as my mainstays. All of them are American companies, that produce all thier stuff here. My US dollars go to 100% US produced product!:D:D

Any chance you guys plan to make the RAT-3 as well? I like the shorter handles as opposed to the RC-3.

The handles are the same size as far as I can tell Mr Pink:confused: From memory of course since i only have the RC3:thumbup:

I don't have the actual numbers, but I know for a fact that the handle is a little longer. I believe the blade size is the same because the sheath works for both the RAT-3/RC-3.

Did you want a better picture of the BHK small tiger knapp in hand? The picture I took and showed you earlier wasn't really a firm grip. Let me know.

am i evil? are you ayn rand cultist gonna stone me? :)

I belong to a silly Kool-Aid knife cult, but I can still spot a troll from half-a-mile away.

And yes, trolls are evil. :D

Nick Trbovich, is that you? :p

trolls aren't completely evil, they fry up crispy & taste like chicken. Good trail food in a pinch but they dont keep long. I hear the RC-4 is about the perfect size for thin slicing them.

Thanks, now I gotta clean coffee off of my screen! :D

would that be troll cracklin'??????

mmmmmm....cracklin.

I thought my RAT 5 was nice too until I got my RC4, a blind deaf man who didn't know about the debate could see it in a second.
But that's not even the issue, even if Ontarios blades were superior I wouldn't buy another one. I want my money to go to RAT cutlery, I will certainly grab a RAT7 if they get rowen to make one, plus many more I hope.

dalit is a Ontario spy/Troll whatever you want to call it...just joined / Ranting non sense and how many post does he/she have 4.... and after a few people called the troll out .."poof" the troll left... we all know Ontario is watching/reading and are mad Rowen does a better job at producing RAT Designs which are Jeff & Mike not Ontario....

I have a RAT-7 I bought last year. Made by Ontario. It's a great knife, and I won't apologize for owning it.

I wouldn't buy one now, but things have changed. Last year things were different. But it is still a nice knife.

I don't think we should apologize for owning Ontario RATs bought in good faith. We had no idea they'd pull this crap. I have a RAT-7 from the pre-RC Cutlery days (At least the R.A.T. site only had jungle training on it). It's obviously from when Mike & Jeff were working closely with Ontario, as the edge grinds came perfect, it was sharp, and the scales exactly fit the tang. So, I won't apologize.

I also mentioned in a post in the W&S forum that we shouldn't dogpile anyone who owns an IOntario, or even who posts about it (it was a post about a guy getting out and using his O-RAT, not instigating something like this guy.)

Now I also won't buy another Ontario. Both because of what they are doing and their poor QC. To be honest, even if they were still being good to Mike & Jeff, I wouldn't buy from them if their QC is as bad as everyone is saying.

That's the sad part, I have always been a collector of two of Queen's patterns, but I haven't bought one in nearly a year, because I am afraid to order one online for fear of getting a bad one.

Some I have seen in stores were just horrible lately, bad grinds and blades rubbing.

The QC drop has not just been Ontario itself, but the other lines they own like Queen. And all long before the current mess they started.

I don't blame my knives for the sins of their parent company.I love my RAT-5 and I'll love my RC's (I haven't decided what to get yet).

blame your knives?????

No one is saying to blame the knives, just that the parent company is pursuing unethical/destructive practices.

It's really not rocket science. Folks that dont' agree are voting with their dollars. Quite simple.

i own 2 RAT7 ,2 RAT3,Tak,RTAKII RAT1,&RAT3/7 ram horn..I am keeping them,Great blades and they are Jeff/Mike designs....But I will not buy anything that sends $$$ to Ontario now...RAT Cutlery from here on out !!!!!!!!

I agree that we shouldn't dogpile someone that owns an Ontario RAT or posts about them in other areas. Owning Ontario RATs is what led me to where I am now with RAT Cutlery.

At one time Ontario was righteously producing Jeff and Mike's designs - and they are still Jeff and Mike's designs despite what Ontario tries and Ontario should honor Jeff and Mike's requests.

Now that the contract is over and Ontario has done what they have done, the consumer will make the choice with their dollars. Mine go to RAT Cutlery.

At this point, I won't get rid of my Ontario RATs but I will replace them with RCs as they are available. When they are replaced I will make the decision of what to do with them.

Individuals my make their own choice what to do with the Ontario RATs they own, but the path we have traveled has led most of us to support Jeff, Mike, and RAT Cutlery.

I will not contribute any more of my dollars to Ontario, which is a shame because prior to their un-honorable dealings and practices I was looking at getting a few D2 models.

Thank you to Jeff, Mike, RAT Cutlery, and Rowen for the excellent customer service and care and the excellent product. I can't wait for my son to get big enough that I can give him RCs. I think of him as I buy these blades and the joy it will give me to give them to him one day.

We believe in and support everyone's right to spend their $$$ where they want to. And even though we have had to battle some quality and warranty issues with Ontario in the past, there are some good Ontario RAT knives out there and we would never ask anyone to get rid of them. The same as we would never ask anyone to get rid of a SOG, Kerhsaw, KaBar, Becker...whatever. I'm still carrying an Ontario RAT Model 1 folder everyday. The bottom line is if you like the knife you carry, then that's the knife for you. The real issue from March 14th of this year is every RAT knife that Ontario builds is now pirated since they no longer have a license from RAT to build our knives. They have been sent a cease and desist and they are still building RAT knives - blatantly ignoring doing the right thing and ignoring customers who have warranty issues - thus hurting the RAT name.

thanks tony. your post is the perfect example of what I was trying to say.

Hope you're well man!
