Guns & Hinderers

Haha! Yes you do have a hoard of all those things!!! But at least you hoard the good stuff and you're nice and tidy too :) Unlike the one's we see on TV

Not as neat and tidy at the moment as I would prefer. (and there's a clinical term for that too ;) )

I stocked up in 2008, these are just a few of the boxes I bought for $11 each... :D

Lol, well played BT!

I'm not all that upset about the .22lr scarcity (other than on principle and regret that I gave all of mine away) - I can only shoot .22s for so long before I get bored. I need more feedback - a good thump in the shoulder and more "reactive" terminal performance - than the .22lr can provide..

Yeah, .22 is good for paper and frozen water bottles, but my favorite is .223 VMax and gallon milk jugs with red water. Pink mist!

BT, I knew something was coming from you, just wow, Hinderers and ammo!

There is a WalMart in my area and at the ammo section behind a closed glass ammo case the Sales Associate had some fun by scotch taping a single .22 lr round to a piece of paper that read " make me an offer"

Agreed! Although for pink mist I prefer prairie dogs ;)

When I was in collage (um, college. Ironically that would be the word I misspell) one of my part-time jobs was working for a local gunstore (go figure) and one of the other guys working there was an old retired Army officer. We'd go shooting together from time to time. Anyway, there are prairie dog towns in some of the meadows and lower-lying areas around the San Francisco Peaks outside of Flagstaff. A lot of the area being largely volcanic, many of the dog mounds have a lot of cinder in them. Well, George would load softer lead bullets in his 45-70 and, instead of shooting the critters directly, would shoot into the mound immediately in front of the varmints. The resulting spray from the shredding lead and the kicked up cinders made for a cool "shotgun" effect.

Some other time I'll tell you about the recce (uh, research) I did on prairie dog towns for one of my more liberal biology profs.. Lets just say she wasn't pleased with how I put the information to use..

My local LGS had some of those recently, they were $40 per brick (limit 1).

Wow, for $40 I can get almost 2lbs of powder, with which I can load up right around 325-350 .223s depending on the recipe..

Not sure if I'd laugh or cry if I saw that..

2 lbs of rifle powder should get you closer to 550-600 rounds of .223.

But you are right, primer, FMJ 55g bullet, powder with free brass is about $0.20-$0.25 per round so $40 of components could get you 160-200 rounds.

At Bass Pro in the FingerLakes Mall in Auburn, NY the out of stock price for .223 was $29.99 for a box of 20. Close to $ 1.42 a rd. So a case of 1000 rds is close to $1500. If you load up a 30 rd Mag (which is illegal in NYS under the Safe Act) it is $42.60. Using RDA's reloading cost of around $40. Per 200 rds, $200 would be the cost to reload 1000 rds. Even adding to the cost of reloading to,say $400 per 1000 there would be a huge savings. So if we have any entrepreneurs amongst us, here is the opportunity to finance some Hinderers through reloading ( if you can obtain the components).

^ I was just a that very store a few weekends ago Joe. My kids love the fish tank there and we go to watch the guy feed them occasionally. The prices on ammo are ridiculous! You are almost crazy not to reload if you are an avid shooter.

Bass Pro and Gander Mountain have crazy prices. Gun shops around me have had 20 round boxes of .223 for under $10 for some time in quantity and cases for under $500. I recently saw on-line a case for $379 (brass and 55g bullets).

9mm and .22lr continues to be out of stock more than in stock and when available, still pretty pricey and limited.

I've got 1500 rounds available! :D

Me too...
