H.E.S.T Passaround Review Thread

I'll bet that knife looks well used by the time it gets to its eventual owner!

I hope so!

That's what these passarounds are all about. I took part in one and was the 6th or 7th person on the list and the knife looked brand new.

I batoned that bastard through some hardwood, carved toothpicks out of full sized oak trees and dismembered a hippo before sending it on.:D

Seeing as how I am first on the pass around list, I decided to start a new thread for the H.E.S.T reviews.

First of all, I would like to thank Derrick and knivesshipfree.com for donating the H.E.S.T that is being used for this pass around. It goes without saying that this would not be possible without his generosity.
Second, I would like to thank the moderators for all the hard work and patience that makes the RAT cutlery forum a success.

Now on to the review........The first thing I noticed was how great the knife felt in my hand, it is the perfect size and weight for a survival / EDC knife.
Next, I decided to use it for a few basic tasks, like cutting some small pieces of wood, shaving some tinder for a fire, cutting a soda can in half, and popping a cold beer ( it was pretty hot today).:D
After all that work, there were only a few surface scratches on the blade, nothing major.
I then gave it a quick touch up on the sharpening stone, and a light coat of oil.

Next is a picture of the H.E.S.T. wrapped in paracord hanging with my Izula, then a couple of pics of a fishing kit and waterproof matches hidden in the compartment between the scales. Everything fit well, and added next to no weight to the knife.

I also made a camo paracord lanyard for the H.E.S.T, it has a pewter skull on top with 2 washers and a black bead, it looks like the skull is wearing a top hat. But the washers and bead have an actual function, the washers are used for removing the scales when no other tool is available, and the bead keeps the washers from bouncing around. ( the top hat thing is just a cool side effect)

I have passed the H.E.S.T on to the next person on the list (Libertas), and will be including the lanyard I made as a gift to the lucky person who ends up owning the knife.

Well, that was about all I had time for, the days just flew by.
I will finish this review by saying the H.E.S.T is a compact, well balanced work of art. It is the epitome of form and function, and I truly believe that every person should own one.

Thanks for the opportunity to participate in this pass around.

Jetblack

good idea to use the washers as screwdriver

Ok here goes This was done some time ago sorry for being late
I really like this knife a lot. I think that it feels good in the hand. And it would be up for any chore you could throw at it.
First started of by slicing up tomato's for pica di gio Worked very well and was good and sharp.

The Para cord lanyard with pewter skull was a nice touch.
Next went camping Baton some wood for the fire made fuss sticks
It shows some wear on the blade coating but not on the edge. As it stayed sharp.

Cooked up my hobo dinner and had a steak by the fire

Sharpened it up for the next one in line. I think that you will like it
I got a numbered one and plan on taking it out as a neck knife PSK ( work well for this)

So In conclusion if you want a Knife that feels good in the hand, holds an edge, has interesting lines, excellent warranty, looks good and will do any job you can throw at it. Than this is it.
I too think that everyone needs a H.E.S.T.!!!!:D

Thanks for the kind words. :D

This was actually the second H.E.S.T review I did last night, I started working on it at 11:30 pm, and finished about 1:30 am. the first review was twice as long and had more pictures, but when I hit the submit new thread button, I got en error message. Once I tried to go back all my hard work was gone!!!!
So I started all over again at 1:45 am , and couldnt remember half the stuff I wrote in the first review, so what you see above is the watered down version of my original H.E.S.T review that got posted around 3 am.
SORRY :(

I have lost many a long post that way, some real masterpieces if I do say so my self.

That is why I always copy a longer post before hitting the post button. That is one feature I really don't like about Bladeforums is the automatic time out. It needs to be longer, and should not time out when you are typing.

I remember seeing this model a while ago, but had forgotten about it.

Can the next person who gets it include a video of them using the wire break notch in their review? I'm still not 100% sure on how you are supposed to use it.

i was just curious,Is this passaround still alive?
I have been working 7 days a week 12 hours a day, so I havnt been able to get on BF as much as I would like..... I miss my RAT buddies.:(

Great review and great photos. I love my H.E.S.T. and it is my EDC. I have a $20 and small fire steel in the handle. I figure I can use the pull on my jeans zipper to open the handles, so, no need for the washers, but, great idea none the less.

I'm still trying to get a reply as to who has the knife.

Been over a week and a half without hearing who has it.

I'm not thrilled.
