H.E.S.T Passaround Review Thread

Many thanks for the comparison pics with the Mora clipper. I have ordered a HEST and was a little worried it would be too small. looking at the pics in comparison with my clipper, i think it will be a perfect fit.

Joben, my fellow Ct. resident, thank you, I received the HEST today, both lanyards are included. The blade was a little chipped, but nothing that will not come out with a few licks on the sharpmaker and the leather strope. I will use it Wed. and Thurs. and mail it to the next person on Fri. (if not sooner). Does the next person in line want it resharpened (to the best of my ability) or just send it?? Please & thank you guys. I will post up pics when I take it out for a test spin.:)

No matter to me, you can throw an edge back on it before you mail it, or I will deal weith it when it gets here... :)
 
I noticed some slight edge damage when I had it. Nothing serious, but enough to catch the light when I looked at the edge.
I wasn't 100% sure if it was like that when i got it; I think I noticed after I batoned, but before I kindled my fire. But it seemed like the sort of damage caused by an encounter with stone, rather then wood so i figured it probably wasn't me.

I fixed it up some before I sent it out but didn't have time to finish and wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple nicks you could detect with a keen eye or a by running a finger nail down the edge.

At least I assume that's the level of damage we are talking about, I hope no one in the postal service had fun with it. :rolleyes:
 
I know my mailman reads my Guns and Knives magazines (and I think he has taken some also). Some come with tape across the pages, which is cut when I receive it. I had to call and put a tracking notice on my Shot Gun News and Guns & Ammo magazine because I didnt receive them for months, and sometimes a few months late (so dont laugh) ! I always thought to myself, Would you read someone’s Playboy magazine if you were a postal worker?:o
Anyway, I sharpened the HEST last night, and the edge is fine, pops hairs with a pass (and now my arms & legs are bare). That’s what I really like about RC knives, IMO, all (so far) are easy to resharpen, and stay sharp after use. The Hest is a larger knife than expected (when I saw it online). It has a short stout thick blade with a long handle that fits my hand well. I really like the way it feels so far (I have a feeling I'm not going to let her go that easily :D), only used it a little bit. Its raining today, which is fine, I have tomorrow to play in the woods. I have used the HEST to sharpen tips on a few support stakes for 5 Fig trees that I have started (I have 5 grafts from a large Fig tree that Im trying to grow). I used the HEST to cut 1/2 stakes from an Oak branch in the back yard, it cuts well like the other RC knives. I tried to carry it on my belt, but the Pry Bar Pommel digs into my flank when Im in a seated position. Fits nicely in the pocket though. Im excited to have it and use it, I will take pics tomorrow and post when I can. Thanks again for the pass around privilege. Oh, the most important feature will be the bottle opener, which I will use tomorrow during the first world series game. :thumbup:

Mr. Coffee, check your email. I had a hard time letting go and wish I could have kept it longer, but a promise is a promise so the HEST is on its way...have fun!

Got the HEST, will be writing up my review, need pictures, then it will be moving on. Sorry for the delay, H1N1 is kicking my butt at the moment... should be heading out to the next person Thursday (PO closed Weds).

Got my H.E.S.T yesturday I LOVE IT!I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT!! I'm taking it out to a funeral tonight,now it will be a fun night!!(at least for me)thanks to my new H.E.S.T.

Ok, well still pretty much off my feet, but the HEST is packaged up and will be headed to the next reviewer on the list. Will post my review hopefully later today. :)

Man the anticipation is killing me, I hope it shows up this week. The mail lady is beginning to think I'm a stalker :eek:
