H1 Spearfishing Knife

Sal, I'm ready for this too. I might have missed this in the thread but yellow handles work much better when you drop one and it's close enough to retrieve. Depending on depth, light, etc, some just get lost.

Many years ago, I did a color test while diving in Kona. Had plastic covered colored sheets and stopped each 10 and recorded what the reaction was. at 100', yellow was the only color that remained true.

Now there are materials that will hold color while deeper, but I would still use yellow.

Red goes black pretty early. Bright yellow is in most cases the best option for making kit visible at depth. Glow in the dark might also work, but one would have to leave it on deck for a few minutes before diving..

Since we're still a few months away from any possible protos of an Aqua, I had the thought to regrind a Jumpmaster to a pointed warncliffe shape, not ideal, and the handle is black, but the Jumpmaster sheath is already set up for leg strap. I'd like to get some real world testing. So, Actionyak, Gringo, please email your mailing address to me. I'll send you the samples we made (we made 2) and you guys can test them and let us know findings.

hahaha...thats AWESOME Sal! Thanks for letting us test these! I'm going to be at the Blade show. Any chance I could pick mine up there??

Sal, you're the best! Email inbound, and great timing as I'm only a few weeks away from a spearfishing trip to the Keys. More than happy to report back on the regrind.

Wow, that's really awesome! I'm curious as to exactly what the regrinds look like, would love to see pics but certainly understand if Sal isn't comfortable with that (trade secret issues etc).

A pointy jump master with yellow scales would be awesome. I guess ill have to start saving up.

Perfect, that will save me lots in shipping and customs! I have played with a few concepts for modifying a jumpmaster (on paper) so I'm anxious to see your take on it.

Pretty cool getting to test the protos.
Two lucky guys for sure.

AWESOME! Can't wait to hear how it performs.

Very exciting to be reading a "We need a ..." thread, Sal responds, and prototype is born!

Indeed.
That is company response to customer demand in real time, pretty much, something rarely seen.

Anyway...lest we further derail this discussion, here is a thread i started last year discussing using my modified Pacific Salt as a "brain stabber".

And Surfingringo, that was a cool thread about using your Salt on the Barracuda. Down in the Keys we are good up to about 10lbs before having to worry about ciguatera. I plan to shoot several in that size range and will put that proto to work!

right on! I LOVE the small ones here. Probably some of my favorite fish to eat. 3-5 pounders are flakey and delicious. That guy was kind of gamey. Meat was tough and the flies were not landing on it so I gave it to one of my neighbors. They ate every bite of it. ;) Good luck in the keys. I've heard its great down there.

Really neat thread.

Some of those Riffe designs look awfully pointy. My spear tip has been known to bounce off a rock or two when the prey is hanging out near the reef. If it's coming to that sharp a point, the stock would need to be pretty stout down there at the tip...
