H1 Spearfishing Knife

We have a design, using an Aqua handle. Basic dagger with teeth on the bottom and a false edge on the spine.

That sounds awesome to say the least. And quick question Sal (or anyone else with an answer), on the all black pacific salt, is the clip titanium?

Sal, you rock!! Surfingringo gave me a heads-up on your post on your forum.

"We have a new knife coming out that is specific to "braining" fish for free divers and kayak fisherman ( "Fish-Hunter" ) It's based on the Aqua handle with a double edge blade. plain on one side and serrated on the other. Yellow handle. It will have it's own sheath much like the Aqua sheath but a different shape. It's a dedicated fisherman's knife.

That is awesome! Thanks for being so responsive to customer input. Spyderco is the best!

Wow!!!! What a response from Spyderco!!!!!!! Awesome company. So glad I have become a customer of theirs.

Sounds promising - I think there is a potential in the market for a high quality, rust-proof, steel spearfishing knife. Could Sal Glesser or anyone else share with the community any news on the development, tentative release date etc?

Thanks for making great knives!

We have approved the prototype and we're tooling up for a purpose designed sheath. Still probably 6-9 months away.

Thanks for the update Sal. I assume, given the design, that the sheath will have some sort of straps for calf/leg/arm? Hopefully it will take a g-clip too.

The plan is for a "G" clip with holes for fastening on the sheath. Straps are so particular to the individual that we've not come up with a combination that works well for all arms, legs and personalities.

Here are my points for the ideal spearfishing knife:

- up to 10 cm (4 inches) effective blade length
- dagger style (symmetrical grip, one edge partly serrated)
- line hook on one edge
- one-hand release of knife from sheath
- large enough handle to have a secure grip with thick gloves
- low profile handle and sheath for minimum bulkiness and water resistance
- solution for freeing stuck shaft. Why not use the Spyderco hole for this purpose? Should be drilled to fit a shaft diameter up to 8 mm
- flexible attachment solutions for
-- arm (slot for single broad elastic velcro band and/or holes for circular bungee)
-- belt (screw-on clip to sheath)
-- leg/calf (slots for conventional rubber bands)

I'm excited to hear and see more about the prototype - you have the chance to launch the best spearfishing knife in the industry!

Great news!
Now I just hope the sheath doesn't have problems (dulling like the one with the Aqua Salt or bad retention like the ARK's) and it'll be the diver/kayaker/boat knife of choice for anyone in this forum, I guess.
Thanks, Sal!

It's in the 2017 catalog! I'm so excited to get this knife. Thanks again, Sal, for running such an awesome company!

This is a amazing thread. Sal thanks for being so active and open to people. I do snorkel but no diving so I always have a knife while snorkeling. I'm so excited for you guys who are getting the specific knife for your needs. How awesome is Sal?!!
