Had a close call last night with weird impotent security theater and ~$640 worth of knives.

It's a dang Leatherman, a tiny, tiny Microtech, and then two 3~ folders.
Jeez, I may as well carry two Espadas. I did not get this reaction carrying one knife less. šŸ˜‚ Or a slippie instead of the OTF. This is the first day I have ever had an OTF, guys, I am not trying to be superman, was just excited the lil thing fit in my watch pocket.
This is not a wild carry. All tiny stuff.

No other event, I had assumed that it would be similar to the much larger one I had frequented. Did not come in a car, but in a Lyft. I was simply there. Had I known about the rules, I would have indeed "abided".

I think a lot of people are misinterpreting this as me trying to sneak my stuff into a place. No, I was THERE, dropped off, after a long Lyft ride. It was figure it out, leave this all in a bush, or I don't know what. But I didn't come there with the intention to break any rules, I'll say that much. I mainly came here to tell the story about this farcical security, like, have security or don't, I figure, but hey, worked out.

Indeed, I just thought it was a funny story. I think I may have been misinterpreted by many, though.
All good, I am not misinterpreting your story. And I agree... security seems to have had some design flaws! 😁

I was just kinda wondering if there may have been a reason that they were primarily focused on the escalator. Maybe they were looking for a perp that had irrational fear of elevators?

Hmmm... Years ago I posted how I lost a much loved zdp-189 endura. Posters here were indignant, saying variations of "That guard's damn lucky; getting a free zdp endura!"
I have a ZDP Endura! Snagged it off some dude trying to get into a concert, thanks šŸ˜‰ Just kidding, but I do love my ZDP Endura, and am very sorry for that loss! It's one of the few affordable ZDP models still around, you should snag another.

There was no way I'd let security get it, I'd turn tail and put it elsewhere before giving it to 'em, what happened on your end?

A combination of poor peace and order situation in the whole country, jittery security in a building that hosts several foreign embassies, and a slip from my usual routine.

That building is also where I usually transact for one of my bank accounts. Knowing the system there, I usually leave my knives behind. Well, I didn't for just once and it had to be the endura. I slipped through the frisking guard at the entrance. But at the second entrance, I left the knife in my bag and it went through the x-ray machine. GOTCHA! I tried to invoke the law and say I'll just leave with my knife. Well, their "policy" states they should impound all deadly weapons found in the building. If I resort to a lawsuit, it'll be even harder for me (laws on illegal carry can be very fuzzy. How does a banker justify a zdp-endura for "recurring utility needs"?)

Went to a concert once with a 9mm in waistband. Car was a long way off, so put the gun next to a tree until concert was over....I would have been really upset if some guard had tried to take it away. Simple matter of forgetting I was wearing it...
Was a TERRIBLE concert...

Man, that absolutely sucks! RIP to your Endura, or, rather, maybe it was given new life :/

I once went to a concert and my ex was wearing a bullet belt, they didn't allow it in and we had to hide it by a bush, it was found and gone by the time we came out. Glad your pistol was still there! Imagine getting it jacked over a show that wasn't even worth it!
What was the show?

I only carry two medium to large folders and a little keychain model .

Some people can hold knives and use with their toes / feet .

If I could , I'd need to carry another pair of knives !

And , I don't need a separate pry bar , I carry Cold Steel . ;)

Seems to me you would have been better served walking it back to the car. What if a kid got his hands on it, or some drugged/drunk whackadoodle!

You guys were making me feel like I'm this kid...

Oh, the pry bar is just so that other people have something to borrow, cause when folks ask to borrow a knife, they normally don't need to cut, ha.

Scary thought indeed. That method he used did not work for me, but it wasn't a gun I left, though, but a belt.

I’m about to date myself…back in the nineties, I was in [redacted], back on the east coast and realized that the bar/club we were going into next for a friend’s bachelor party, had a security guard with a wand. Not wanting to lose my new Spyderco folder, I called my friend who was a LEO and asked if I should just dump my new knife in a garbage can or if I had any other options. He told me to step aside, put my knife in my shoe under my foot, and walk in. The reasoning was that they are lazy and don’t bring the wand all the way to the floor. I was completely skeptical and questioned my sanity, but did so and walked straight through. After I got inside I went to the bathroom and put it back in my pocket. Was it uncomfortable walking in? Hell yeah. But it worked. YMMV.

I can’t say much, I always have a small fixed blade and SAK on me, and most of the time either another small fixed or modern folder. Plus I have the fixed and folder in my little maxpedition ā€œman purseā€, if I leave the house. Plus the two fixed and a SAK in my backpack that stays in my truck 24-7. Excessive? For my needs, absolutely excessive. Do I really care? Absolutely not. 🤣 Oh, this is in addition to my Glock that I carry when I leave my house.

If you can carry an XL Espada , its just crazy not to !:thumbsup:

In my reg. pockets, it fits totally normally and slim, I am totally confused by the comments of "Who has pockets big enough to carry this?". It actually is a good nighttime Coyote-area carry! I love large carries, I just make sure that I have something smaller too so that I'm not whipping this out to cut a thread in the Starbucks.
You just have to be sure your knife is properly concealed.View attachment 1784044mView attachment 1784045
Mane, you guys got some small pockets! This is the aluminum butt of the XL Espada, from me tipping my pocket open on the sweatpants I am wearing right now, my reg pockets are only a tad smaller.
