Maybe he was telling a story 20 years prior and it sticks in his head because of how off-the-wall it was? It was 110% irresponsible, granted.
Pile-ons always make me feel bad. I don't think the guy thinks it's acceptable to do that, today, if we would ask him.
I'm gonna watch all the "Okay, superhero" people to see if y'all post in the guns and knives thread. If you're going anywhere short of the hood, I'll say its a little much to go there. What do you need that for?![]()
Ugh, I really can't argue with that. I do think someone can have a moment of irresponsibility overtake them... Ierno. I will leave this one alone. I don't like to put myself in position of judge. Let us hope that is a behavior to NEVER be repeated.I had the same level of responsibility with regards to firearm ownership/usage when I was 12, as I do today at 58. It is not a sliding scale. You are either responsible enough to own guns, or you are not.
They say a punk rock show without at least three deaths is a dull affair.I'm old enough to remember when attending concerts was not a death-defying experience.
I have a Leatherman wave in my bag and a CRK Umnumzaan in my front right pocket. Does everything and more I will need. Also I used to live in the "hood" so maybe I'm just not as scared as you.Man, come to think of it, I took apart and moved a bed earlier in the day.
This is a reasonable amount of crap for a full day of activity. I just want to make that clear, that I didn't strap everything on specifically for that outing. That was just where this story... became a story, that wasn't "I carried my EDCs today. Did some stuff, too. Unscrewed the screws on a bed"

Now you get a little of what I get. A gun just is not an option for me, where I am. Also, this is kind of a general comment, not every word totally directed at you. But I get a ton of crap for carrying a defensive folder that I practice with daily in my idle time (Watching TV? Why not wave & watch?) and is one, of many tools. People don't see this kind of thing on my person, unless they think knives are cool.
Again, not all directed at you, mainly the "it's a bit much for that activity". Yeah, but it ain't a bit much for being out and about all day. A tool, a knife, a backup, and a defense item. Where's the overkill, the backup knife?I have a Leatherman wave in my bag and a CRK Umnumzaan in my front right pocket. Does everything and more I will need. Well, some were "get with the flow" or "get trampled". Knives and guns, however, were definitely not a topic then. Especially when attending recreational events (although Altamont instilled some harsh reality into the rosy dream). Hashishin would have been burned at the stake immediately, or sent to relegation, in these times (if caught with his ironmongery). Only weapons allowed were flowers, glass pearls and showing off your [language removed for violating our terms of service for this forum]I'm old enough to remember when attending concerts was not a death-defying experience.
Do whatever you want. If 4 knives is your security blanket, then so be it, but expect most people (in the real world, not on a knife forum) to think it's strange and look at you warily. Your Leatherman with a knife blade is your "backup". Your "defensive" knife isn't really going to do anything that different than your primary knife is. So to me, it's overkill. Glad you practice your defensive knifing daily in front of the TV by pulling it out of your pocket a lot...Again, not all directed at you, mainly the "it's a bit much for that activity". It was just, lots of folks here will post up two guns, two knives, a flashlight and a coin, like, under the word "RESPECT" or "SEMPER FI" and folks eat it up, evidently a Glock and a Strider doesn't weigh your pants down?
but you post up a Civilian and folks act like you want to be Batman. I feel that sentiment (in general, not you, here) is a little hypocritical, carrying a .45 and a pocket .22 to the grocery store, or like that one dude, 50+ in khakis and a polo who looks like he'd look right at home here with us, with four, count 'em, four, pistols in the Subway (sandwich store). I do not begrudge that.
I'm just saying, to the group - we cannot all have that. So, enough with the "I'd jes' bring my gun!", cause I cannot without a potential bigger stink than the one I had here.
I swear, heavy metal folks and punks are kinder to their fellow man than the hippies. I am influenced darkly though, because my dad was a "hippie", who espoused all of these values, but practiced nothing but greed, anti-sociability, money-grubbery, hedonistic drug and alcohol use, hate towards family, all while pretending to be a benevolent hippie. Yeah, right. I enjoy psychedelic culture but not to the point one is a total Dead-head Wook.Well, some were "get with the flow" or "get trampled". Spend the night in jail?! I would be shocked at the series of events that would actually lead to that. In my experience, I have to really be asking for it in a bad way to actually go to jail for the night. Disrespect, intoxication, something. What I have in my pockets? Nah, they aren't gonna come sonar in on me.

Oh, I thought I had deleted your text.Well, I deleted my post but since you replied anyways, here is my opinion. Having 4 knives at an outing, at least one border-line illegal, in one of the most anti-2nd Amendment cities in the country, at a place where you have to empty your pocket, it's not "you asking for something", you just have to come across the wrong LEO, in particular where you live. It's not very smart or cool. Knife lagality aside, also remember the existing no-loitering laws. I live 20 miles south of you.
Was kind of going off-topic with the defensive folder talk. This was just meant to be a kind of funny story about a little bind I got into, not how to sneak your knives past security. This thread belongs in Prac - Tac .
I put a generous dash of irony into there. I am probably your dad's generation so I'm totally aware of the foolishness and hyprocrisy involved in that "beat" or "hippy" stuff. Good things and a lot of pretending and crap, too. Whatever, when I read this "I'm confident when I fall over at my next death metal show, the mosh pit will stop to pick me up", I tend to ask is "heavy metal" the new rosy wave ? It would be nice, though (I have a son who is very much into heavy metal, so there's that). Have fun and leave your ironmongery at home when going out for pit fun.I swear, heavy metal folks and punks are kinder to their fellow man than the hippies. I'm confident when I fall over at my next death metal show, the mosh pit will stop to pick me up. Altamont woulda stomped me. The hippie movement was a lot of hedonism in my eyes by then.
Oh, I wish metal was the "new wave". I'm 25 and often you can tell the "established" crowd at most of the metal or punk shows I go to, they were going to shows in the 80s at my age or younger. This is the heyday of hip-hop, which I like, too. I'm a musician, so I appreciate some of everything. Rock and roll got too stale, the crab-mentality prevented mainstream growth and the genre and its subgenres only flourish in the underground music scenes (in my opinion). Underground scenes leave a lot of room for creativity and real, raw, people that the wider mainstream does not, though it can also encourage clique-ish behaviors, too.I put a generous dash of irony into there. I appreciate what you are saying, but I don't think you read this all the way through. I spent like 300 dollars there. I referred, towards the end, how since growing up and not being a loitering kid, I have never been hassled by security or LEO. This remained true.
