Hail the mighty 9!

Florida skeeters are big enough to put on sneakers and breed a turkey. Bama's got nothing on Florida, skeeters or football :D Now bring on the flaming!

We have some pretty nasty skeeters up here in Bama too now. Don't underestimate the swamp skeeters in some of our lowlands here!

Ha ha at the football part! lol Everybody knows that Alabama grows the best football players in the nation! Florida? Yall ain't done nothin' in years!

If I'm going to blast, I guess I'll have to etch then huh?

Blasted blade wear vs coated blade wear.....hmmmm, I really like the looks of them both!

Definitely a tough call, I can imagine... For me though, I've simply developed an aversion to black or painted blades. As much as the worn/used look can be appealing, I prefer to cultivate a worn/used look on bare steel. The ensuing patina is what ultimately gives it the character I desire. But! That being said, it is just my opinion and only worth the brain cells that someone is willing to expend hearing such a thing. I stripped my 9 simply because I found the wear pattern to be ugly... But what is the saying? YMMV?

For now, I'll leave the coating. I may blast the 9 later on down the road, but I'm definitely leaving the coating on my 4. It's the stepknife The Warrior The Warrior gifted me to beat on!

Ha! Yeah I hear that a lot here in Ohio as well. I blame OSU for stealing my coach! Lol

As far a the finish, I prefer to strip the crinkle coat. Too much stuff gets caught up in the voids, and I occasionally do food prep with any straight edge knife I own. I like to know I can thoroughly clean up after food or raw animal parts come in contact with it.

OSU has a good football program, better than Florida's, but not as good as Bama's! I don't find a problem with cleaning my coated blades. The rough side of a dish sponge, some dish soap, elbow grease, and voila! Clean blade! Although sometimes I have to take a steel bristled brush to knock off the hard stuff.

I'm guessing if is possible for u to post a tutorial video, showing us the art of etching your blades.

It darkens them up a little. Those pics above are before and after. There are certain types of really "fibrous" micarta that darken drastically with a coat of petroleum or sno seal.

I saw someone else use beez wax on new scales, doesnt it make them geasey feeling, slippery?
What is the purpose of waxing micarta?

The 9 is definitely my favorite Becker knife.
I like the look of a well worn blade, but when most of the paint was worn on mine I decided to strip the rest.
