I am looking to purchase a hard use tactical folding knife and would appreciate any suggestions. I have been looking at a few and here they are
1. Strider SMF
2. Extrema Ratio MF1
3. ZT 300
These are the ones I have been thinking of, but if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Of those I'd go with the SMF. More useable and more ergonomic then the others.

For a 1/4 the price I'd take a serious look at the Manix 2.

i have been using and abusing my Benchmade 550 griptillian for the past year, that thing is damn near indestructible, i had a saw snap on me a few days ago while cutting some 2x4's for a new stair case and the grip finished the job, cut through 3 and a half inches of some seriously tough wood with not the slightest bit of damage to the blade or the lock. use it, abuse it, you could set this thing aflame and it would be A-OK. there are probably tougher, but for the money, the grip is a beast.

also, the Manix2 looks awesome

Cheers!

I'd vote for the ZT 300. If you had an SnG on the list, which I think is more comparable to the 300, I'd vote for that. It's just a personal preference though. Not because one can do a tough job and not the other.

Out of that list, the SMF has the best size to weight ratio, and blade shape usefulness. But for the price, I'd say the ZT0300 series. They are built like tanks, have the same materials as the SMF, and have multiple carry options

I think you should also look at Emerson knives, Great stuff and most are well under $180.00

This knife doesn't get alot of attention and I don't understand why, but the Burke Production Rockstar is defintely a hard use knife. IMO I would put it in the same class as a SnG, and Sebenza. The handle uses 2 Ti slabs, with open construction, lockup is rocksolid, and the stonewashed blade is CPM154 The action on the two I have own(ed), has been smoother than any SnG, PT or small Sebe I have had. I guess the only complaint I have would be the size of the pocket clip, but other than that this is definitely an over built harduse knife...that is worth taking a look at.

Nobody has continued to ignore the OP's question and recommended a Sebenza? Gee. :D

Of the three, the ZT gives good value for the dollar - but I would go with the SMF. It has great ergonomics, good customer support, and innovative design which is a benchmark of the industry.

An RFN handled liner lock at 10% the cost will give you exactly what you pay for, regardless of the public's impression. Most of those owners were raised on plastic knives, I don't believe their range of experience gives them a opinion with depth. They're also hijacking the thread, which is a witness to their character.

I like the ZT! SMF is also a great knife, but for about half the price you can't beat the ZT.

I recommend the ZT, but rather than the 300 I recommend the MUDD. I've been using mine hard now for several months. You mention "hard use" but don't mention what that means. I have used mine to cut open concrete bags (dozens), which will eat up most other knives' pivots, but the MUDD didn't even blink. I have dropped mine 20 feet onto concrete, used it to cut wire, pried flashing and boards off with it, split boards (without a baton just pushed it through from the end) with it, I have scraped paint and glue with it, I have chopped small branches with it, pried up bent over nails with it, cut sheet metal and cans with it. It has also done quite a bit of cutting stuff!

If you want a real hard use folder, I'd recommend the MUDD. It doesn't care if it gets dirty!

MUDD sure looks tough!

It is tough. The only thing I don't like about it is the sharpening notch, which tends to catch on fabric or cardboard or whatnot when beginning a cut.

I forgot to mention that the MUDD works very very well with gloves. It has a nice big beefy grippy handle, a nice deep finger notch, and the blade release is easy to find and use but not easy to accidentally release. It also sits very low in the pocket.

The Mudd is a very nice knife, I just wish the pocket clip wouldn't get stuck on the lip of my pocket - Mudd owners out there know what I'm talking about :o

Hmmmm....now I'll have to go look for one :p

I put a lanyard on mine, I pull it out of the pocket with the lanyard. Never catches using that method.

Hard use folding knife? I would question your definition of hard. That Mudd knife looks pretty neat though.

Get a Sebenza. If I had to choose from your list I would get the Strider.
