Hartsfield?

Rounding off the sharp edges of exposed steel that comes in contact with your hand is "Masking" or hiding a makers ability or mistakes? Thats news to me. But what do I know? Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Lol :D

Since when have "credentials" meant anything?

Credentials are of no import to those who don't have them.

I'm clearly not talking about a piece of paper, Tai.....it's about experience....the internet allows ANYONE to become a different age, gender or race with a bit if creative imagination....we know who you are(there can be only one:D) and Joss is, and Roger....or at least I do......

Since he stopped posting here, Hartsfield threads have turned into the new Ki threads....is it too much to ask for clarity when people are making unclear statements, such as the one about "competent"? Seems like a specifically chosen word designed to be as unspecific as possible....allowing TJL to make the statement, and then backpedal when called on it.

I CAN say this....the Shiva Ki knives cut well, and aggressively, and hold their re-sale value.....Gary Graley just sold a real nasty looking piece over in the for sale threads, and got his price...and that is the truth.

It doesn't HAVE to degenerate into lunacy every time a name is brought up but it always seems like when you have Lycosa and Hartsfield mentioned in the same thread, that is what happens....which is why I tried to stay out of it.

Carry on!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

No, I am referring to the grinding on the blade. The blade looks as though it has been put in a tumbler prior to sharpening. Have you ever seen a movie from the 60's where they use a fuzzy lens to film an old actress in an attempt to hide her wrinkles? That is the effect his blade treatment has on his grind.

Steven, if you can not see that you instigated the "lunacy" by your aggression, you may want to check into that "daikon" thing.
I have not catered to your demand for me to qualify myself because I am not trying to (in your own words), "posture". I gave you all that you needed to know in the second post. I have real world experience with these knives, and I put my money where my mouth is. All I can offer in this forum is my own observations that come from a lifetime of being a craftsman. Unlike you, I have not taken the position of the daikon and closed my mind to future learning. Just stop trying to control others, and listen. Tolerance and understanding are amazing qualities that allow everyone to learn.

:eek: once again another hartsfield thread turns us into animals. TJL is a old guy that has too many knives to not know what he is talking about. i would myself like to touch the edge of Mr. Martin's knife to see for myself :) are Rj's blade hollowgrind or ground like Phill's? If different than they cannot be compared efficiently i say all the more power to phill if he can get the prices he can. Why you gotta bust everyone's balls STeven? :)

If Hartsfield knives cut anything as well as the words they produce amongst knife people, then they must be very sharp indeed.

:rolleyes:sorry.

"Old guy with too many knives to know what he is talking about". That's for sure! Thanks for the schoolin' Po.

Yeah , you are doing to much work bud , you could just leave the steel in its mill scale form , all barked up and shear cut at the edges... save time.

:D

Ouch. More prejudice.
Can we please get off of this tangent, and talk Steel?

The following, I can safely say, is not "prejudice." As someone with absolutely no dog in this fight, who is not particularly impressed by resumes for resumes' sake, I can say with complete candor, TJL, that you are acting like an evasive troll who wishes to be believed because he says as much, despite offering no supporting arguments, no evidence, and no identity to back up his aggressive and rude postings. I see no reason why anyone would take you seriously. I know I don't.

Thanks Phil. Good points...if they were applicable, but there is no fight nor any animosity. Just observations from personal experience. There is no need to go down this road any longer. Like I said, there is no aggression on my part. Just observation. I have not figured out how to add those smiley faced things to my posts, so I think people are taking my responses too seriously. For future reference, just read my posts with a sense of humor or at least a sense of calm. Bye for now!

i said "old guy with too many knives to NOT know what hes talking about" implying you say what you observe and witness first hand :) you're too old to use smiley faces too. leave it to us kids :p

1. Come to Costa Mesa for the Plaza Cutlery Show, I'll bring my big R.J. Martin Wasabi, and you can bring that rope you promised me last year.;)

2. The thread didn't turn us into animals....we already are animals....foolish to think anything different....there is only the veneer of civility...check out some crazy ass homeless people if you disagree.

3. R.J. Martin is a great craftsperson who makes no claims about himself or his knives other than a no BS warranty, and solid performing steel....nothing controversial or conspiratorial about that, right? No why cast what can be construed as aspersions upon his work. I LIKE R.J. Martin as a maker, and as a person, and put him together with Kershaw....they obviously respect his work and personage enough to continue working with him.

4. You already know how I feel about Phill's work, not worth repeating.

An old friend of ours used to refer to that as the I-90 finish John.;) I think its supposed to make it grippy all over or something.:D But I could be wrong. And yes a rough finish can make A2 rust like a bitch.. If you put a decent satin finish on A2 its actually pretty stain resistant. At least in my experience, but what would I know. Im not real old and dont have many knives.ha!

Ah, that sounds better! Thanks!
