Has anyone bought doubles of a TRADITIONAL knife you love?

I am guilty of this. My weakness seems to be serpentine jacks like the case texas jack, schrade 233 etc. Typically I will buy doubles in a different handle material, however, I do have a second amber bone texas jack and old time schrade wrangler sitting in my drawer :s.

Some weird psychological thing for me, but having a spare of one of my favourite knives just makes it easier for me to use it as I don't worry about losing it. However, looking at it now this seems like a false economy as the only knives I seem to lose are the ones I don't have doubles of!!

If I was much more wealthy than I was and I could do so without causing my significant others to want, I would buy doubles of almost everything, user and safe queen. Too bad, looks like everything has to be a user ;) A man can dream though...

Knowing that it may not be available again one day when you want/need another? Or is that just silly?

I've always tried to buy extras of knives I really admired if I thought they were time limited. The latest GEC offerings in O-1 steel were examples. I suspected the next batch wouldn't be O-1 and had bought an extra Bullnose and two extra lock backs because NOBODY else makes production O-1 folders. I'm glad I did. I can always sell an extra if needed but I can't usually find something limited when I want to. If I do find a NIB old production knife it's sure to be at just the time I'm short of money. :)

Still looking for a NIB 42 LB in nice Ebony scales. I'm hoping they run some more some day.

So, I don't think it's silly at all. It seems prudent at times to do so in fact.

I have two Stretch's. Liked my original but traded it away. It was vg10. Now I have a set, one Super Blue one Zdp-189

sigh. Please read the title. "...TRADITIONAL knives"

I've tried to avoid doing so over the years, hoping to make my acquisitions easier to justify...but I've succumbed to the charms of certain models and purchased duplicates. ;-)

I may or may not have a drawer full of Schrade 93ot/893/899/825 knives.

I just love that pattern and when I come across a good deal or a mint specimen, I buy it.

Yeah... But its good to see I'm not the only one :D I would have doubles of everything if I could afford it lol

Bark River made Marbles Canoe. They used the last of the 1095 blades from the Marbles bankruptcy.

If we're discussing traditionals with the same features, then several Buck 112's, stag Kissing Cranes Solingen whitlers (mini or half? about 2 1/2" closed & they're no longer being made), and the small thin SAK/Vic with one blade, file/screwdriver, tweezers, & tooth pick. Oh, and two Buck 110 50th's.

If we include the same model name, but with variations on scales and such, then include several more Buck 112's and the GEC 15's & #6 Pemberton's.

The 112's and 15's are sweet and make great gifts for special occasions. The Kissing Crane was my daily carry long before I ever knew there was anything other than a "Traditional" folder.

Just look at my sig line. :)

I have doubles of most of my traditionals, sometimes with the same recipe (same covers and steel), sometimes a different. I'm a big fan of the 54 whittler, and every time I go after one, I know that I have to plan on double that money. One to play with, one to admire. Or pull out in the case of catastrophic stupidity, such as losing the original knife or breaking it somehow.

Guilty. Many times over. GEC #42's and #38 Farmer Jacks make up 27 of them. 12 of them are users, just love the patterns

Case 11031sh and a couple beer scouts for me. Those are the only ones I've intentionally bought multiples of though I guess.

I have not yet, but I could see myself doing so to have spares to give away. Well I take that back. I had a new amber bone case mini-trapper and then an 80's vintage came in a lot of knives I got off the bay. Let my 15 year old son have his pick. He took the new one, LOL.

Sort of. I own a Northfield stag #73 and I liked it so much I bought a Tidioute micarta #73. Technically the same pattern, but there is enough difference between the two, including handle material, thickness, weight, branding, detailing, and feel, that I think of them as two different knives. This is the first time that I've owned two of the same knife at the same time though, something I never thought I would do.

I have double Case 6375s and will probably get a third. 6375 is my all time favorite slipjoint.
