Another thing is the need to chase exotic steels! I fell for that for a while but I've come to the decision that most of the new exotics are just to darn hard to sharpen and I'm perfectly happy with 154cm or even lesser steels like 425M or 420HC.

Anyway, part of the excuse is the exotic steel trap.

This strikes a cord with me too . I've come to this steel as well . Besides it would suprise many how close this one comes to S30V in edge retention tests. Suits my taste, ease of maintenance, good stainless qualities and holds a decent edge is mostly what I look for now. DM

I think this is true for me as well . I try to stay within the parameters of my collection but the club knives get me side tracked . DM

Same here David. The problem is that almost anything made by Buck is inside that parameter.
