Has anyone had any major problems with SOG?

The Flash II really isn't the greatest, it's okay though.
The Trident was actually pretty good while I had it, sold mine because I didn't like the tanto blade.

Glad someone said it.

That's all well and good, and I'm not complaining however I have over 1000 throws with a Busse Battle Mistress and over 500 with another. I threw my American Lawman over 100 times and that's a cheapo folder. This knife actually broke faster than any knife i've ever thrown, on both ends of the rockwell spectrum.

I have a Sog Micron on my keychain (SOG's offer), a Seal Pup (non Elite, AUS6), a Flash II and a Visionary I.

Micron - quite good small knife, nice look, but I wouldn't buy it for the price they sell it.

Seal Pup - I love the ergos, the blade shape, the lightweight feeling. The steel isn't that great, but for the tasks I use it it's ok. When batoning hard-wood it got some small chips on the blade, nothing too bad, but I wasn't expecting that.

Flash II - I like the feeling, but the blade play many people mentioned is there. It's a side to side blade play, it doesn't really bother me. When I bought it it was my best folder... now it's far from that.

Visionary I - I love it, my favorite EDC. Excellent ergos, excellent steel, I love the blade shape.

Ohhh I forgot I also have one of those SCUBA/Demo with leather handle but never used it a lot, I just loved the look. One thing I've noticed: if you get one of these SOG knives made in Seki, Japan, you're going to get a nice knife. If you buy a Taiwan (or somewhere else) SOG knife... it will be overpriced. Just my opnion, based on the knives I own.

The N.W. Ranger is a fantastic lightweight slicer. Flat ground, nice grip wet or dry or with gloves on. I can't speak on all of SOG's offerings but this is a good one.

Aside from the ridiculous amount of play play in the flash and Aegis series. They have Great technology and designs.

Except for their blatant ripoffs of other company's products. :grumpy::thumbdn:

SOG "USED" to make good stuff, but no longer. I'll spend my money elsewhere, thank you.

Why run the risk of buying a POS knife when I can find consistent quality with any of the big three.

Plus after seeing their endura and delica inspired knife line, I wouldnt touch a sog with a 10 foot pole.

I have at least 5-8 SOG knives i carry a SOG Trident folder on duty everyday have been over 5-6 years now i have beaten the snot out of it .. everything from prying to cutting things i have no right to cut it have never failed me and neither have any of the knives

not to be argumentative but not liking where a company brands their logos is not a MAJOR problem a major problem would be a defect or critical failure. I dont like the big gaping hole in my spyderco knives but would never say it makes the knives fail or weak .. i just dont like them aesthetically ...If you dont like the branding fine... dont bash a company based on where they choose to put their name.. i know someone who wont buy benchmade because they dont like butterflies..

I have mailed 3 knives back to SOG 2 for sharpening and 1 for a nick in the blade (i caused cutting metal) all 3 times the knives came back perfect or replaced FREE

i dont like when people hate on things for silly reasons.. if your knife has alot of play .. return it , get a new one, or tighten it.. sorry just my OP i can honestly say my SOG knives have saved my life more than once .. and that broken blade in the first pic was clearly abused.. again not trying to argue just stating my personal exp with the knives and the company.. a knife is a TOOL not a toy used within its working limits it should never fail

so whats your opinion of the Benchmades that have spyderholes?

I have a trident that I carry at work for the past 4 yrs never had a problem with it. also have a twitch xl that wife got me for xmas, havn't used it much yet but seems like a nice piece

Recieved a mangled sheath (not covered under warranty). After much complaining it was finally replaced with an excellent one.

Don't care for SOG's marketing, selling 440A/440C steel but ended up being AUS-6/AUS-8. Advertising products as being made in the USA but in reality just assembled in USA. Selling an official "Navy SEAL" knife that really isn't. Designs that I consider copy rip-offs.

Magnadot folder continually rusted even though the steel was supposed to be AUS-6.:(

Flash II would not lock open.:grumpy:

Employees (2 that I talked with) worship Spencer frazer like a god. :barf:

Other than that....I have a first production run Seal Pup Elite that has held it's own rather nicely.:)

From the ones I've handled, I'm of the opinion that their fixed blades are pretty nice, if not my style.
Not a fan of the looks or feel of their folders though, they just don't seem to be on the same level as their competition

just running through your post i see the sheath was replaced :)
Is AUS_6 supposed to be rustproof or highly rust resistant? also where is the knife kept(environment) or did SOG claim it was rust resistant??
did you send the SOG flash II back for replacement or repair? and if not why?
No clue who frazer is but i dont like people in stores who favor one knife over another or brand whores
I carry a seal pup on duty almost everyday along with my trident in NYPD and i love it :)

they do? i could have sworn ive seen threads in the spyderco forums about lawsuits.. honestly if someone has a good idea and another company uses it that would just let me know they did something right ...

edit the actual spyderco forums not here

SOG in my opinion is the Company that should take the heat that is reserved for Cold Steel stuff...with one caveat, the SOG Multitools are topshelf.

I have seen too many breaks of SOG knives for it to be coincidence, too thin and designed for specific use, hence stabbing or cutting softer material, flesh, cordage, cardboard etc. Seems people get the most disappointed in SOG knives during the time they need more a utility tool than a killing knife.

Yes they do. I have called and talked to Benchmade myself about it.

So it seems the general consensus is that Sog makes decent Fixed blades but not so great folders?
