I sent this knife of to engraver Christian DeCamillis approximately 13 years ago.

In the beginning he told me to be patient that the engraving would look better since he was going to be learning new techniques in Italy.

I never got the knife back from him.
After countless calls he recently said that he finally looked thru his safe and said the knife is missing.
He thinks one of two people that he had working for him stole it.

If anyone has seen this knife please let me know.
It should be at least half engraved but most likely it is totally engraved by now.

Thanks,
Mike

Why did it take you this long to post about it

Guess I'm too nice of a guy.
I actually didn't even post it in the Good,Bad,Ugly section.
A mod had moved it. This post was originally in the Custom knife section.

But to answer your question.
For years he said to be patient. The knife will look great when done. He was learning new engraving skills back then.
After that he was no longer working at the Gold & Silver center which was the contact info on his cards from back then. He had no email then. I still can't find his website.
I searched for his contact info thru the years after losing track of him. I could swear he wasn't in the online white pages back then.
Lucky someone replied to my post here with his phone number, that was a couple years ago.

Then he said he would get too it.
Then later he said he had to dig thru and find it in his safes.
Then finally he said he couldn't find it.

This was after years and many calls.
He never once has called me except to return one call.
He thought it my fault too that I couldn't find contact information on him for many years.

He took my money and ran.
I actually traded other knives for the engraving so the engraving was paid for.
I'm still out my knife and the engraving.

This guy owes you, no ifs ands or buts. This guy owes you. The knife went missing under his watch. HE owes you. He needs to come clean on this or forever reap the consequences of a sullied reputation.

Wow !!! 13 f#ckin years ago !!!!!!! Tell that SOB you need to be compensated for your knife and all the time you waited for it !!

And um, no, I didn't see your knfe anywhere.

Nice find, Tinbasher.

Michael J. Smith, contact him on and through that website. Lets see what he says to being located.

I'm sorry about your knife. But to be honest that just sounds like theft to me.

Even IF the person responsible for taking the knife was an employer it's still his (the guy who accepted your knife for engraving) responsibility. I wonder if business don't have insurance for situations like this btw. It seems only logical, things can always get lost after all.

Have you ever considered filling charges? It may or may not help you get your knife back, but for all you know this person plays these games more often, it would be good to have some sort of record going if that's the case.

Thanks everyone for the replies and support.

Not sure but I doubt there is another engraver with such a similar name.
If he had my name then maybe! LOL
You would think he would know how to spell his own name.
Or maybe it was on purpose so people like me can't find him.

The deal wasn't made thru his work. The first time I meet him was at a knife show that I had a table at and he asked if I would be interested.
He was working freelance out of the place on the card. It went out of business more than 7 years ago.

He has an engraving website: http://www.engraversstudio.com

I would suggest signing up on the website and asking Mr. DeCamillus directly.

He recently developed a product to compete with Steve Lindsay's Airgraver and GRS products and has been actively promoting it.

He is also active on: http://www.engraverscafe.com/.

Good Luck,
Peter

Thanks very much for the links.
I didn't have those before.
I think I will wait a little bit and see if posting here helps before I try anything as drastic as that.
At this point I still don't want to hurt the guy. I just want what's due me.

You can find plenty of older references to 'Christian' online, including an instructional DVD he produced. Yet he's pretty actively posting under 'Chritians' now. That's not a typo.

All fishy. Very unfair treatment.

Michael,
Just so I understand this clearly, you discussed the engraving directly with Chris, and handed him the knife to be engraved (the one pictured in the post) as well as other knives for payment?

When I knew him it was Christian.
Why would he change his name?

For this transaction the conversation was over the phone. He didn't have email then.
Sent him the knives in the mail.
I had called at the time and he had received the knives.
That was 13+ years ago.

let me tell you, I would email, leave negative messages, and start negative posts about this guy everywhere! You are not going to get your knife back, trust me, but you will hopefully cost him more in business, and as a side benefit save others from a thief!

Well I just got a phone call from Christian.
He offered to settle for less than 1/4 of what he owes me since he says I cant prove anything.
He also threatening to take me to court and sue me for post on these forums and suing the forums themselves for allowing me to post here.
