Has exposed clip ever gotten you unwelcome attention from police?

Gotta love Oregon knife laws. AFAIK there are no state legal restrictions on blade length or concealment. Heck, switchblades can even be carried, as long as they're made and sold in-state (Kershaw, Benchmade, Gerber). That said, I have never been bothered by law enforcement about my knives. The only time someone has even noticed my knife in-pocket was a campus safety officer at my university, and he just wanted to know what knife brand I was carrying.

Believe it or not, Western New York's knife attitude is pretty good. Granted other than some bigger cities like Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse it's mostly small towns, suburbs, and rural areas but even in the more metropolitan areas knives are pretty well accepted. I have my knife clipped to my pocket 100% of the time with no problems, even at college in Rochester and having campus security see my clip, and even see my knife in use. I even have had conversations and pass-arounds with other knife guys in public stores! I did however buy a slipjoint for NYC carry so when I go there I can not be naked.

Born and raised in Sanborn, NY. Have carried a knife for almost 40 years and never a problem. :D

Things are fine in long island New York too. I carry a clip every day and have never had a problem. I think it's just NYC that's the issue the laws there are much stricter and honestly pretty stupid.

As best I can recall I've never had a cop pay attention to me at all, never mind worry about what's in my pockets.

I do sometimes unclip a folder and drop it all teh way into the pocket just out of general slight paranoia.

+1 here

No problems in Florida. A common pocket knife is not considered a weapon any more than a tape measure is. Open carry of fixed blades is legal but not seen too often. CCW takes care of anything "in between."

All of these knife laws are SO stupid and I really don't understand the point of them. If they're intended to lower crime rates that's a joke cuz they will have the opposite effect because more bs tickets and arrests will happen because of them. What's really pathetic is that evidently NYC police at times have nothing better to do then check pocket clips to see what it is, what a joke!! what is even worse is that most cops dont seem to even know the difference between assisted opening and switchblade. I once had a tiny little cheap as hell joke of a knife taken away because the cop told me it was a switchblade, which it wasnt. It was a tiny lighter/knife thing w/ like a 1.25-1.5" blade. good thing i didnt care about the knife. But It does seem like more n more cops have just become fund raisers for what ever city they work for, by handing out lots of stupid tickets for stupid new laws. Im ranting and I know they are just doing their jobs which I guess ya cant blame them for but I would be pissed if I became a cop to help the public and was relegated to handing out traffic tickets and knife clip tickets. That being said I havent had a problem since that little knife was taken and that was years ago now. It surprised me at the time because I live in Maine and just about everyone I know carry's a knife even if they are not into knives because they are such a handy tool to have w/ you. Dont the legislators in the towns that ban knives understand 99% of the people that carry em are good people that use em to open boxes....etc. We shouldnt all be punished for the 1% that commit crimes as those people wont follow the law anyway!

depends, are ya asking cuz you actaully want to see it and are interested in what it is as a knife person? Or are you asking to see it so you can give em a hard time about it and give them a ticket? My personal opinion is that unless a LEO has a prior reason to stop someone they shouldn't be able to stop everyone that has a clip on their pocket.

Last Oct my family and I were walking in to the NC State Fair and had mine taken away by an Raleigh PD officer. They had me go to a table and fill out a tag so I could get it back when I left. I always carry 2 knives and they didn't see the 2nd one and I didn't tell them about it.

Have been carrying in and around NYC and the outlying boroughs for over 40 years with nary a problem. Bottom line is - keep it in your pocket without any clip showing and you should be fine unless stopped and frisked for some other reason (probable cause is usually the reason given) and then it is also a good idea to carry a traditional non-locking slip joint or something akin to the UKPK.

I had an indian casino ask me to check my knife once. I was walking around the casino floor and awkwardly bumped into an older woman. The kind of bump where it looked so awkward that it probably looked like I was trying to pickpocket her. Anyway, as soon as this happened I looked at the security camera. 2 minutes later I was surrounded by security. I ended up checking the knife clipped to my pocket, but not the one in my boot or the one in my waistband. :D

Over here in Australia the knife laws are VERY tight. In New South Wale's it is illegal to carry any knife (that includes SAK's and Slipjoints). Although it is only in metropolitan areas that anyone would give you any hassle, rural area's are usually ok. A pocket clip showing is quite risky in urban area's. The prejudice people have over such a simple and practical tool saddens me.

Not even close.
You may want to check out all that can be accomplished with a shorter blade before making silly remarks.:)

Not silly, I believe he was being humorous. Which I found amusing because I don't care for small blades. I think we're all pretty much aware that smaller blades can accomplish quite a bit. :D

Not silly, I believe he was being humorous.

He was likely being serious, as he often says how useless blades with shorter lengths (like 3-3.5 inches) are, asking why there aren't more knife comapnies making 5 inch folders.
You have to know the history to put remarks in context.;)
