Has exposed clip ever gotten you unwelcome attention from police?

Reading "Blade" magazine stories about knife rights, you see tales of people being stopped by a cop after the cop spots a tell-tale clip outside somebody's pocket. Hassles often follow.

I'm wondering how common such incidents are. Reading about such incidents has made me reluctant to clip a knife in my pocket.

And if we have law enforcement folks on here, I'd be interested in hearing how you regard someone you see with a knife-clip showing.

Also, a point of etiquette. If you're out and about and you spot somebody with a clip on their pocket, would you figure they're a fellow knife enthusiast and feel comfortable asking them what they're carrying? Or would you figure they would want you to mind your own damn business?

I've never been bothered by an officer because of a clip showing. By the time I started carrying a knife with a clip I was in my 40's, an unlikely source of problems.

If I see a clip, I don't ask unless I know the fella. If I see a stranger with a clip showing I mind my own business and hope he minds his.

never had a problem in florida, nyc, california, korea, or japan. Laws are quite strict in korea and japan, i was stopped at the airport twice in customs. First time they took a bit of time, as they needed to call someone with more authority over and they measured my 2 EDC's, the other knives i had were kitchen cutlery and a present for my dad, which i explained. Second time i was asked to open my luggage and show them, i first showed my firestarter, then they just okay'd me after that.

No one has stopped me while being about, but i'll be damned if i haven't tried spotting a fellow knife nut here in SD. It's like a where's waldo game trying to find someone
