Your PayPal account (pjmknives@hotmail.com) has been limited.

Hello pjmknives,

PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly screening the accounts in our system. We recently reviewed your account, and we need more information to help us provide you with secure service. Until we can collect this information, your access to
sensitive account features will be limited. We would like to restore your access as soon as possible, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Why is my account access limited ?

Your account access has been limited for the following reason(s):

June 8th, 2012 (11:25:54 p.m.) We would like to ensure that your account was not accessed by an unauthorized third party. Because protecting the security of your account is our primary concern, we have limited access to sensitive PayPal account features. We understand that this may be an inconvenience but please understand that this temporary limitation is for your protection.

How can I restore my account access ?
It's easy:

Use your personal paypal form attached to this email.
Confirm that you're the owner of the account by updating your account information.

The process takes about 3 minutes. After your information is successfully verified and updated, you'll be prompted to log into your restored account.

A real Paypal email will always begin with your registered full name, like Dear Herbert Hancock. It never uses your email address as a greeting, or "Paypal Customer/User".

Those scammers are getting better and better at this, though.

I never, ever open a link from an email...no matter how official it looks. Just type in the address you want to go to in the address bar.

And for those that didn't know, you can fake email addresses. They can make scam emails and have it appear as if it is coming directly from paypal.com, etc.

Careful out there....crime does pay and these guys get smarter by the day.

Well, my account is now "limited" until I provide proof of my Social Security number.

Mine is not the Phishing scheme, there are no emails involved. When I log into Paypal's site, there is a dispute pending in the resolution center. They have limited the account until I send them either 1) a copy of my SS card, 2)a copy of a pay stub, 3)a government doc with my SS number on it.

I just pulled out all of my funds, until I get it resolved.

rprocter, how did you finally resolve it? Did you send them anything, or just call? Thanks.

5.56: it's now a long thread, but i have posted everything that happened and exactly what i did.
Basically: i sent PP a link to pictures of my passport and a bank statement. I corresponded with PP by email and by phone 3 times.
Approximately 36 hours after they received the required document pictures, my PP account was "restored".
I went against my own beliefs by sending PP the info they demanded as it was obvious that no other course of action would liberate my PP account.

Roland, did you say you sent them links to pictures of your documents... or did you send them picture files?

Thanks Roland.

EDIT: I just spoke to a Paypal rep, they were able to verify me over the phone with only my date of birth.

You can still protect your personal information when sending in documents. If they were to ask for a tax return, it can look like a freedom of information release from the CIA and black out phones, SSN's, anddollar ammounts, leaving full name and signature. It is an option. The people collecting this information don't need that info.

Rick, being a computer doofus i don't understand the difference between "link" and file".
I took pictures of the 2 documents and posted the pics to my private photobucket album. I then sent PP the link(?), for email, to those 2 pictures.

That's what i thought your were talking about. Delete those pics, bro! Paypal doesn't need them anymore. Photobucket accounts are suceptable to hackers as well. Get them off the URL.

Basically...
Link - photos are uploaded from your computer to the internet and then accessed via a link from there.
File - Files that are sent from your computer never get a web address assigned to them. Just make sure to make a copy and delete the email from your sent box, incase your email account gets hacked.

Files are safer but not immune to hackers. I would seriously erase all images from your hard drive and delete them from Photobucket.

Anytime paypal asks you to provide information by logging in to a provided link,ITS A SCAM.Always forward them to spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com They will work to shut them down.Of course more will pop up.My son works for a network security company and he tells me its way worse than you can even imagine. He seems a bit paranoid but im afraid he may be right.

I am waiting to get one of these. And then I will cease all contact with E-Bay and PayPal. They already have too much info, they don't need more. What is next , retinal scans and bloodwork?

Here's what I found out when I went through this.

Paypal has been having a lot of problems with people creating "stealth accounts." In fact, there is an entire website/forum discussing how to keep and maintain stealth accounts. These accounts are used by everyone from previously banned eBay/Paypal members to money launderers. Sometimes they find individuals with up to as many as 20-30 stealth accounts.

When I spoke to the Paypal rep, he informed me that the limitation placed on my account was merely a security check to ensure that my account was legit.

Yes they had asked for my SS number, which I think is unnecessary, but really they just needed proof of my identity.
And a simple phone call from the actual member and me confirming my DOB was all that was needed.

It seems they are just cracking down on these "stealth accounts," they're not compiling a database of your info. They already had my SS number on file.

I once had my PP account suspended when I attempted to make a $10 purchase on eBay, followed by requests for personal and financial data.

I contacted them, pointing out that as I used PP just to buy, and that I don't sell anything on eBay or anywhere else, and used a debit card, which (by definition) needs crediting prior to use, why did they suspend my account, and why do they demand such utterly *meaningless data? (*For their stated purpose).

Paypal had verified my address, landline phone number and debit card account!

A supervisor wrote back, apologizing, and confirming that the information was not needed, and that it had all been a mistake!
