Check out the Shiva Ki thread in the general forum. Interesting thoughts from the man himself! http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327416

It's a bit of a strokefest, but it gets interesting toward the end (I am unlike any man you have ever met, my blades outperform the top smith's 3 to 1, etc). I think his knives look awesome and the purchasers have good things to say about them, but people who tend to spend that much dough on a knife tend to usually REALLY like the knife, regardless. I've seen some major hype in the magazines, too, but it seems warranted to me, at least judging my this thread. Just made me feel a little bad about the crap I've been making. :(
What do you think?

There is nothing better than being able to back up your BS.

Shiva Ki is Asskicker-Supreme. I used to think I was, but I am humbled by the magnitude of his asskickery...

He's like what... 65 now? I'm 46. He would wipe the floor with me. Gotta respect someone who could stomp a mudhole in your ass and make really great knives too.

Every so often, one of his followers starts a thread of adulation.

I am not aware of his having demonstrated the superiority of his knives in a published competition.

I tend to mistrust such blatant butt kissing and self aggrandizement.

Well Jeff.....as one old fart speaking about another old fart who talks loudly, I'll quote an old mountain saying.....

"I've heard the wind blow before" :D

I am kind of curious though....we seem to be getting a lot of this lately, did someone put up a "Free Thundar T shirts at Blade Forums ", link over at that sword place ?

I wholeheartedly agree!!
First there was 40 grit phil, and his mad cultists, now this.

Where are all these masters when it comes to helping new makers right here.
I guess the pay, and the fame, isn't enough.

Well, far be it from me to say anything bad about the man and his knives. I've never seen one up close an personal; nor have I ever met the man. That, and I wouldn't want him to Dim Mak me or give me a vibrating iron palm strike. ;) :D

LOL................!! I'll bet there could be other uses for the "vibrating iron palm"?!?!?! :D ;)

Something like "The orgasm of death" maybe. ;)

I hear good things about the knives, but they are way too expensive and the hype is annoying - "Ranger stealth kill" "Tiger claw - deadliest CQC knife ever!" etc.

The man himself reeks of bullshit. I mean, seriously, anyone who talks about ancient warrior spirits +5 and being an Yogi mystic master has got some issues.

Well in any case good knife great knife the best who knows what you do know is that marketing is what counts and if this guy knows how to make a knife or not he has marketing. you can make the best knives in the world no one will know if you haven't got marketing. If you make the worst knives no one will care if you have marketing.

Amen, Brother!!!

I have read he makes awesome knives, but no matter how awesome his knives are, they were still made by a man with a hammer and a grinder.
the magic, mystic, spirit stuff should be left to a fantasy knife from united cutlery.

Higgy; My six year old neighbor's son could do that to you TOO. HEHEHE!!! :p :D

Spirit blade cleanly severs a 3 inch Oak limb with a single stroke

did you look at the limb
if that limb is 3" I'll eat it. size it up . 10" blade I'll bet that limb isn't 1.75" where cut. compare it to the widest part of the blade. no way that blade would have to be 15" long and 3 wide

16 ropes 11 times plus the others. hahahaha it's magic alright
movie Magic I think.. BUT it's only My opinion ;)

like they said if it sounds to good to be true it probably is..he needs an invite to a H/I I think. :)

I was thinking the same thing about the limb cut Dan. You can only do so much with steel and there are a hell of alot of mastersmiths out there that push steel as far as it will go in performance. I guess Bill Moran and the other TRUE masters don't have the spirit + five or whatever the hell it is. I had to put my boots on reading that. :D

The stump is pine, the branch is 2" or less-the bark doesn't look like the oak that grows in the southwest. The rope cutting is impressive.

I wonder if he will enter the new open cutting competitions when they start. Anybody heard any more on those lately?

I'll bet I could take him. I smacked around and old grey-haired lady using a walker last week. I knew I was in trouble when I drew back and punched her on the jaw as hard as I could, and she said, "That all you got?" I gulped and she thrashed me pretty good. She was tough, but with the help of a louisville slugger, I finally won. I'm in fighting form now... just let me at that six-year-old! Grrr!

Confidence is one thing but wow!!! He don't need any zoloft any time soon I reckon. I guess I might as well find another hobby right now, I will never be that good.
I love the prices of some of those knives that don't look near as finely finished as some of the guys here that have only been making knives a year or two. Must be that samurai steel. Where can I order some flat bar of that?
