My wife found the old Columbia (fedora?) for me a few mos ago and the Stetson I've had for years and I do wear it when it's cold. Most other times I wear a just a ball cap.

Haha, that's my hat I posted above (I like it actually). The one you posted looks a bit different? Perhaps they changed the styling slightly.

I'm usually a ball cap kinda guy but in the winter months I love my 100% merino Smartwool beanie. Like underwear for your melon. Because its such an uninteresting hat......

How does someone “forget” their knife? Doesn’t seem possible.....

Well Salty had the best excuse jwb01 . The knife he uses for that job he keeps on the belt on the back of his chinks, (chinks are a style of short chaps, or leggings). That way he always has it with him when he needs it. Problem this time was we'd made him a new pair of chinks and he forgot to switch the knife over. Here Salty, on the right, has his old chinks on and you can see the knife, one of my Vaquero Ultralites in a Horizontal Sheath on his chink belt.

Just a cowboy tidbit, a tradition. The first time you wear a new pair of leggings to a branding (we use the generic term leggings cause there are many styles), you should try to get some blood on them. If ya don't somebody else will do it for you, its kinda a thing. This is Asia, Salty's girlfriend, a few years back. She'd been keeping her new chinks we'd made her too clean. So somebody wiped some blood on there for her, see its a thing. Judging from the blood stain I can make a pretty darn good guess what it was somebody smeared on her leg.
