Hats & Knives

Thanks for resurrecting this thread, Barrett!:cool: I don't think I've ever seen it either.
The dermatologist says I should keep the sun off my face year-round, so I have a rotation of about a dozen ball caps that I use, including some knife makers caps I bought last summer.
Here's a Buck cap with a Sarge 440C BSA Barlow. I tell people who ask that I got the hat because it displays my birth year. I happen to be wearing this cap today - coincidence ... or Grand Design???

Here's a Böker cap with a Marbles ram's horn Barlow. I now feel obligated to track down a Böker knife - maybe one of those ubiquitous Böker Barlows with the tree stamped on the bolster.

Of course, I also have a Rough Rider cap, but apparently no photos of it - so far! :D

Oh I've got a bunch of chapeaus and a bunch of knives! I forgot about this thread too. Another excuse to post pics!
If I ever move to the west coast it'll be Santa Barbara. I've spent enough time there to know I love the place! I don't think my Lloyd shadow has been there yet though. It'll make the next trip.

Here's my " Cap - camouflage pattern - class 1 "
I've worn one of these every single day since I was 12 and will never stop as long as I can find a replacement every 10 years.

This is the hat I wear when I'm out in the backyard.

It's a plainsman by a California company called San Zeno leather works which I believe is no longer around.
It's a pretty awesome hat, but is definitely weighty as nothing more than 3 big chunks of suede leather sewn together.

My wife laughs like crazy when she sees me in this hat! I'll tell you though, with the wind chill temperature at -28F it kept my head and ears warm as I spent almost an hour snow-blowing the driveway this morning! The knives kept me company and were along in case a polar bear attacked. :D

Betcha weather like that was really getting ya missing Santa Barbara now Gary?
I'm sure missing the warm weather, Dave. We were thinking about a trip that way when the fires started. Now we'll wait for a more appropriate time.

Lots of hats and knives on the ranch! That's a great winter landscape picture!

I think our next trip will be Santa Fe. Another place I could live. My oldest daughter and granddaughter live there too. I think the Lloyd shadow will like the high desert climate.

I've been enjoying everyone's posts in this thread! I'm glad I stumbled upon it.

I like your knife hats, GT. I've seen a few knife company hats like those before, but I don't think I've ever seen a Rough Rider hat. I knew they made hat-knives, but not actual hats. :D

That's a good looking hat, H&S. I always like that sort of style, but I don't think it's a look I could pull off.

Gary, I'm sure my wife will laugh the same way, but with our upcoming move to Minnesota, I've been eyeing a few hats that look a lot like that.

Here's today's knife and hat combo. I experimented with some waterproofing wax on this hat a while back. It sort of worked. I'd call it water-resistant. I just started carrying the #85 recently, when I took it home with me over Christmas.

And here's something a little different. Both of these belonged to one of my grandfathers; the stockman belonged to my maternal grandfather, and the Shriner's fez was my dad's dad's.

Barrett, those grandfatherly heirlooms are fantastic!:cool::thumbsup: Details on the stockman? I can't imagine a lot of fezzes will show up here! ;) (Guess I should search the thread just to be sure.)

Thanks for the kind cap comments. :) I'm a big fan of Rough Rider, but those hat knives are a concept that I can't grasp! :confused:o_O I took some shots in the library today of knives with my RR cap. Here's one with my Imperial clip/pen toothpick:

Thanks for the comment.
This hat happens to have come from my dad.
He bought it in 1979, wore it once home on leave and had my grandmother keep it in a hat case where it stayed till last year.
We we're looking for junk we didn't need to have a yardsale when in the top of his closet is his old hat that won't fit him and happens to only be worth what he paid. With it being a less common size small he gave it to me as i wear the same hat size he did when he bought it.

Btw is that stockman of your grandfathers a Craftsman perhaps ?
Definitely looks to be a Schrade or Camillus made knife.

The stockman is only marked MADE IN USA on the tang of the main blade, no other markings. I posted a thread (my first thread on BF) a few years back asking for some help identifying the knife. The consensus seemed to be that it was made by Camillus, probably 60s or 70s, and someone suggested might have made for Sears, so Craftsman seems likely. Also, my grandpa was a loyal Sears customer, so the pieces all seem to fit.

GT, I went through the whole thread (since it was fairly short) before reviving it, and I didn't see any other fezzes. It's possible there could've be one hidden behind one of Photobucket's ransom images, but somehow I doubt it. :D

The handle on the fixed blade is 100% spectacular. Can you provide details on the material?
