I just scored this old scout hat from a local op shop. The guy running the place claimed it to be a Mountie hat (doubtful ! it is a Bardsley made in Australia).
The other old guy running the place claimed it is a WW1 diggers hat also highly doubtful because its size 7& 1/8-with the metric size 58 also on the label. That makes it 1970s or later.
For 10 dollars its a bargain and its in great condition hardly ever worn.Notice the eyelet where the felt hasn't even poked out ?Its like new.

I took this for the pocket dump thread, but it has my always present flat cap in it so I thought I'd post it here too. I'm happy to see that there seems to be a correlation between folks that wear flat caps and carry tradionals.

As one of them, I'm slightly disturbed by this! :D

Ha, I was just thinking about how outside of the forum, I don't know anyone in my daily life that wears a flat cap, or carries a traditional. Next time I see someone with a flat cap, I might just have to conduct an informal survey and inquire about what kind of knife they carry. ;)

I noticed that a couple pages in. Haven't posted a pic of it, but I wear one as well. Sure do have a lot in common in these parts.

I like your style. That key setup is "tight" as my kids would say.

Same here!

I suspect the correlation between wool caps and folders is the age of the generation we grew up in.

One day the current iPhone wielding, Cotton Baseball hat clad generation, will be wondering what happened to the good old days, while their kids are carrying key fob sized iCommunicators and Synthetic SPF enhanced Solar Shields.

When I was growing up NOBODY carried a Cell phone, most people did not even have cars. Hats and knives were de rigeur, while both are banned in schools today.

I hope I'm not dating you, or myself for that matter, but as a member of the "that's tight" generation, I appreciate the nod! My key ring set up is the part of my pocket dump that evolves more than any other. With that said, you'd think I would carry more keys...

I think you're right Jon. When I was a kid, you didn't see a working-class man, even young lads, WITHOUT a cap. That started to change in the late 1960's, though I remember wearing one in my early teens.

The first time I saw a 'mobile phone' I was in my late 20's and the guy had it in a suitcase! :D

Nice beret, very 'beat'! ;)

Here's my new hat (and knife) from Meako :)
