Love those old Coughlan Opinels.View attachment 3179204View attachment 3179206View attachment 3179214View attachment 3179215View attachment 3179216
I really enjoy using Opinel. I have carbon and stainless. I've castrated calves, whittled pine wood derby cars and used them for countless tasks arround the yard, garage and camping.
Is this one of their "chestnut scoring" knives, or is it a mod of a "regular" Opinel?
There was a mishap, the blade was damaged. So I modified it to one of the best box knives you will find anywhere. Is this one of their "chestnut scoring" knives, or is it a mod of a "regular" Opinel?
Has anyone here tried their scoring knife?

What size is that Effilé?Three more!View attachment 3206234
I think it’s an 8. I can confirm tomorrow. What size is that Effilé?
Before I began carrying the N°10, the N°09 was my go to Opinel, but I have not carried one in years. I just tuned up this N°9 so that it flips open and closed one handed with just a bit of resistance and both locks and unlocks with my thumb on the virole. I also filed down the nub on the inside of the virole, making it possible to pop it off the interior collar for cleaning. It is just as I like it . . .
Except . . .
Who can guess what it wrong (to me) about this Opinel? (N.B., it is not the small roll on the edge.).
