Hats off................to Opinel

You should retire there  then you don't have to drive/fly all the way from that small overcrowded island :D Perpetual holiday with food, wine, sun and no life sentence for being caught walking down the street with a SAK ;)
- yes, you are spot-on, Will…!

The silence, but for the sound of nature, where we are reminds me of being in Africa, where I was born too 😻

Being a cyclist when I stumbled on some of the Opinel Tour de France knives I could not resist. Funny thing is that when the first ones arrived and I held one it reminded me that I had an Opinel way back in the mid 80's. Got in in France will stationed overseas in Germany. Carried it everyday over there and then had it stolen from my shipment of homegoods when I came back to the states. I always like the weight, simplicity and feel of it in my hand. These Tour de France ones will be for display with my bikes but I ordered a simple working No 8 for myself and then two more for my sons. Such a great design.

I'm just glad a "rediscovered" these after all the years that have passed since I first had one. My sons got their's and love them also. Every since I picked up a beechwood No 8 it seems to be all I carry anymore. It's so useful, so light, and feels perfect in my hand. Picked up a pruning one recently and it's getting a ton of use as I work to get my yard back into shape. Today I got in a No 7 and a No 9 to see for sure which size I prefer. Both had great edges out of the package. A little burr on one side of the No. 7 that took me maybe a minute to sort out with a ceramic stone and strop. The No 9 needed nothing but a few passes over the strop. A lot of other knife makers could learn from Opinel on how to provide a quality edge out of the box.
