Hats off................to Opinel

Opinel has a new limited edition in the works, the Opinel No.10 Shiori. US release date is listed as June. It will be limited to 2100 copies worldwide with 200 allocated to the US.

I'm unsure if I am allowed to link directly to the page since Opinel will be offering it for sale there.

It indicates $380...If that holds true...I'm definitely out lol

Just reassembled after a soak in BLO and patina in yoghurt. Now it's back to work!

Looks great- any particular reason for the BLO soak?
Nope, no particular reason at all. The BLO certainly wasn't necessary, but it is nice to give it a bit of gloss every once in a while. Colorado is so dry that I also have the idea that the wood gets thirsty, but that's purely in my imagination 🙃. I have also used beeswax in the past. Whatever I use eventually wears down to the wood, anyway, as I use this N°10 so much.

Years ago my wife bought a can of Butcher's furniture paste wax, because that's what Martha Stewart used. :) It didn't get used on furniture much, but I use it all the time on gun stocks, knives, table saw surface, tools, and stuff. They renamed it a few years ago, because people thought it was just for butchers. I guess it's like Renaissance Wax.

I recently bought a bottle of BLO, just to try it. I usually use Sno-Seal, because this is Minnesota, and Sno Seal is everywhere. . I put a couple of coats of the BLO on a pair of machetes. I liked the effect, so I put some on a newly-reshaped No. 7 which had been sitting around for a couple of years. I had modified the Virobloc to get rid of the nub and to add a locking ramp on the left side of the slot. I had been waiting for some inspiration on how to shape the handle. I guess I don’t have much imagination, so in the end it got a pretty run-of-the-mill reshape to make it more pocket friendly. I applied the BLO to the freshly-sanded surface, without first darkening the wood as I usually do.

It is undramatic, but feels good in the hand and looks nice. The light color of the beechwood is a change of pace for me. I can still apply the torch if it shows finger marks from my grubby paws.

You should retire there  then you don't have to drive/fly all the way from that small overcrowded island :D Perpetual holiday with food, wine, sun and no life sentence for being caught walking down the street with a SAK ;)
