Have beer and popcorn II... Memorial Day thread. What's the best war movie???

Saving Private Ryan
BlackHawk Down
We Were Soldiers
Passhendaele
Band of Brothers
The Great Raid
Enemy at The Gates
Patton
Farewell to the King

"Apocalypse Now" is a masterpiece. I also really liked "Three Kings" and "Few Good Men"

Read all the post there all great movies,:thumbup:Didnt see any John Wayne,Moveis he had a few great ones,,But as for a true war movie I have to go with

Band of Brothers ,it was more like how things really were back then, although North and South was good for a civil war movie,,and lastly The patriot for top revoltionary war movie.

It wasnt a war movie but series,,Baa Baa Black Sheep and MASH,and lastly Rat Patrol.

Two of my favorites that havn't been listed yet: The longest day (which I watch every June) and waterloo.

A few others I forgot about in my earlier thread but I watch every year are: sink the bismark, twelve oclock high, the battle of Britan and Gettysburg.

Watched the documentary, Restrepo last night. Not the easiest to watch, but that's the point... Very well done.

Platoon
Three Kings
Black Hawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
Full Metal Jacket
Patton
Dr. Strangelove

In no specific order...

Anybody remember 'Shenandoah' ?
I remember it had quite an impact on me when I saw it as a youngster.
Had to Google it to get the details. Would like to watch it again.

Has anybody mentioned 'The deerhunter' ?

Probably common knowledge at this point, but one of the guys behind Restrepo, Tim Hetherington, was killed in Libya a few weeks back. A friend of mine from high school, Chris Hondros, was with him and was killed also.

The Bridges at Toko Ri. Classic Naval Aviation movie. William Holden, Grace Kelly, Mickey Rooney, etc.

I didn't know that... :( Sorry to hear this, and also very sorry for your loss, too.

For Memorial Day ? Hands down Saving Private Ryan.
Some other favs, Midway, and the History Channel TV series Battle 360 following the Carrier Enterprise through WWII.
