Have You Found The One.....Or Are You

Read my sig line.

I want a knife with a blade made of pure vorpal.'
Easy to sharpen to a ridiculously sharp edge (a la carbon steel) and holds it frickin forever (a la CPM S110). Completely stainless like H1. Has to be shaped such that it is the perfect blade for all uses. (Whatever the heck that is.)

In the meantime I try various alloys and various designs, carefully evaluating each one in terms of my own needs and usage. The fact that such a knife can never exist just means that I get to keep on looking.:D:thumbup::thumbup:

The closest I have found so far is a Queen 4-inch stockman with D2 blades.

For my small knife, I have the Spyderco ZDP-189 Carbon Fiber Calypso 3.
It is in my opinion perfect for a small knife (especially after thinning the edge to .005" thick).

So far the Spyderco Military is the best medium sized folder I've found. The Kershaw Volt looks promising though, and the Ti Military certainly steps it up a notch as well.

For large folders it's pretty much the Cold Steel Voyager or a custom. Since the 2010 Voyager is looking so impressive I haven't gone the custom route just yet.

I just received my grail knife on Friday.
It's a 97 small regular sebenza in BG-42,
why Mr. Reeve ever switch from BG to S30v
I'll never know. This blade is twice as sharp as
my other sebbies. I absolutely love it.

BG-42 became very hard to come by, apparently the price shot up and the wait time for small orders went from months to years.

I think that it is part of human nature to never be satisfied.

I have gotten "the knife" a dozen times already. Two weeks later, I am patrolling the internet for the next, greatest thing in the world of folding knives.

It's fun at times, and it times it makes me nuts.

At the moment, for folders, i think my CF Millie is pretty close to the one, but im trying out the sebenza for a second time(traded the first one) we will see how that goes...

for a big fixed blade, without a doubt, my Busse BWM is the one:D

I thought the same thing once I got mine sharpened up.

Still, "the knife" eludes me. I doubt that I will ever find one knife that can do it all for me. The best that I can hope for is the "perfect" EDC knife.

Haven't found it yet. Ha ha. I don't own a Sebenza.

No I wish, I'll keep looking till I do... The most perfect folders I have (as of 10:48 4-18-2010)are the Sage 2, Mini Rukus (without pocket clip), and Buck TNT. If I had only these knives for the rest of my life I would be absolutely set to go.

I am still far from finding the perfect fixed blade.

I agree. My "one(s)" are Small BG42 classic and a BG42 Mnandi. The blade keeps it's hairpopping edge even after cardboard where my S30V couldn't scrape hairs off after one box. The difference is night and day and I now know why there is such a following for the old BG42 CRKs.

wow, that Shane Sibert MPR looks like a tank

For an outdoors folder I love my BM 615. I know there are bigger stronger folders out there, but for me, its great, and I wouldn't trade it for a sebenza or something like that.

I don't doubt I could get by with one knife if I needed to but to me it's no different than anything else. Different clothes for different uses. Different shoes, different tools for different jobs, different vehicles, different lubricants, different everything.

I do mean everything too.

I can't even decide on one particular steel, much less one knife style or brand.

There are some I favor over others for certain uses, just like I favor a certain motor oil but as a practical matter I won't ever find "the one" knife any more than I will find "the one " food to eat the rest of my life. Hopefully anyway!

Found one of my grail pieces... Burn 9" swing guard :D

Don't have "one"--but do have a combo that hasn't changed for 3 years or so.

Benchmade 520/525-(depending on the mood) and a SAK Farmer.

Had some to come close, had a few I just knew were the one, but so far....NO. I doubt I will ever find the one. I like to carry differing sizes of knives, i.e. for small carry, a Boker Titan Defender, and large carry, a Ontario Hossom Retribution 1.

The custom Andrew Demko American Lawman I am getting could maybe be close to being the one! Just have to wait and see. :D

anyway, life would become meaningless without the next great "This is the one" knife!

FOr urban EDC carry I have found the knife:

I am still looking good combo. Its hard to beat Vic Pioneer + Friction folder though.

For hikes and camping I am still looking. I got some good knives, but I won't stop buying them just yet.

My sebenza 21 is perfect for me. I actually have been less drawn to knives as late...not really sure why. Probably because I am getting into a new hobby of longboarding haha:P

For fixed blades I love my bwm and my custom shop active duty:)

I salivates everytime I see that Burn!!! Nine hundred and I'm sure it is worth every penny.:thumbup::)

It would be to me!!

Indeed, I open letters and packages with authoritah!
