I spent 20 years as a gun dealer, 6 or so Class III, and the last few doing internet transactions for about 1/2 my buying and selling.
I was on the "Good Guy List" at subguns.com, which is no mean feat.
I always treated my customers (and potential customers) with respect.
Always replied in either the affirmative or negative to all offers.
To tell you the truth, I'm batting less than 50% here on hearing back from folks when an offer is made. I find that arrogant in the extreme.

Arrogance is hardly the right word, laziness or ignorance, forgetfulness and possibly stupidity are much more likely.

Wait, maybe I miss understood, people are making offers and don't follow up or are they just not leaving feedback?

They just leave you hanging, not responding to the offer that has been made to buy their item with so much as a "no, thanks" or "I'll do it if you pay shipping", or, "get stuffed, I don't like the way you type", nothing.
No reply at all to an offer.

Are you lowballing? Sometimes people take that personally.
Nope.
On one, the offer had sat for a week with no reply, so I withdrew it and moved on looking for what I wanted.
The next day the guy lowered his asking price to what I had offered plus shipping.
Heck, I'd have paid shipping if he'd countered with that...

Weird. I get about the same response % from Craig's List offers. People don't have great communications skills these days, I suppose.

Yeah, but you are posting in M4W on CL. Maybe you'd be better off posting on M4M.

(For those who can't understand good natured ribbing, Gavin and I have known each other for years, and see each other a few times a month. Not in a M4M way, perverts)

Actually, I'm post on M4POTWNAA. (men 4 post-op tranny with no adams apple) They are notoriously rude communicators. :D

Strange, can't say I've ever had that issue, though I've only used the exchange twice. All my internet dealings of this forum have been quick and easy.

That's really peculiar, are they new t the site or something?

You get that some times. When I first joined BladeForums,a couple of times I posted that I would buy the knife and not even got a reply.
Those 2 times were the only bad communications I have experienced here, everyone else has been great and very helpful.

It is what it is. Ive given a few things away for free and not even got a simple thanks once received. Dont let it get ya down, the Good make up for the turds, enjoy this place, it rocks.

People don't have to develop character anymore because of the anonymity provided by the internet. What a crappy society this will be in 50 more years.

I would say it's made a strong impression on you because of the business background you describe for yourself. It mattered a lot to you to get back to people and treat them a certain way. It wasn't just a hobby. For some folks, there's no difference between selling knives via an internet forum and talking about knives on an internet forum. It's all just the same casual deal and they treat the two with the same level of attention. They don't realize the problem that can create when their attention is little to none, or they do and just don't care. I know it's frustrating either way.
