Hawk and Knife Combos...

I've drooled over this thread numerous times...and I've never posted my setup, I'll try to fix that tomorrow!

L to R:
VTAC w/Kydex sheath from Fuhrman (super-fast deploy, grab haft just below head and jerk downward, forward edge first), G19 w/Kydex holster from Blade Tech, Glock Field Knife (w/root saw) w/Glock sheath, VTAC without sheath, and Cold Steel Frontier Hawk w/custom finish.

I throw all of these models, including the knife, and all work very well.

I just purchased a cold steel trail hawk and noticed that the head was a little loose. I was just wondering if this was on purpose or if i should try to tighten the head some more onto the handle? Also i took the hawk out for a test run and it performed excellently. my only concern is the loosness of the head.

Sand and file the inside of the hawk eye, and fit it down as far as it can go. remove it and check for high spots that will be indicated by darker rub spots on the wood.
sand these a bit and repeat until the eye and haft are contacting completely. You should still be able to remove the head easily by tapping it by the butt on the ground, but chopping it should feel nice and secure.

Edwood -- you are unkind, sir :P

All about the 'grail' photos, but in your shoes, I would want nothing but the best. Bring back the belt knife -- and stay safe.

It depends on the fit... is the hole in the head the same shape as the outside of the haft? They can come to you loose fit but with the set screw tightened.

my favorites are a modified SOG fasthawk and a benchmade elishewitz folder. had the knife for 18 years now and i have yet to handle one that has a better designed one-handed lock mechanism. i made a pace counter bead lanyard but it's mostly decorative.

the hawk mods are a paracord turks head knot (5 turns and 3 bights) sealed with surfboard resin. just recently added the spike pommel which is on a threaded bolt so i can change it out to something less ominous :)
