Hawk and Knife Combos...

What is this thing with the jigged bone scales in the middle? Looks like a knife handle w/o blade...

I was wondering the same thing! I am thinking kiridashi, but then again my mother in law has something similarly shaped she uses for opening soda cans, although hers isn't as nice looking.

Its a kiradashi, i think it’s a custom made slug dashi made by Spencer A. Reiter of SAR knives, but I’m really not sure. The guy that sold it to me did not know all that much about it. It is made of 6LA4V Titanium with carbide edge the handle is jigged bone.
I use it as a utility blade, opening boxes, letters, wood witling, etc. I think it’s much better then pulling out my main offensive blade in a public place to cut something.

You'd think with all the hawks I've made Id carry a nicer one but I dont..I made this old wrap&weld hawk from a Nicholson rasp a long time ago..Ive walked miles of fence with it, butchered chickens and cleared more brush than I could ever remember. Ive meant to make another one but this one aint broke..

Kentucky, It's not the prettiest hawk I have ever seen, but it looks like it would surely get the job done. I agree. Why fix something when it isn't broke? Many of my favorite tools and weapons are not the prettiest or most expensive, they just serve me well.

Its just a good ol' hawk. I made it a long time ago but have never had the heart to replace it..Holds an edge for a long while and is lightweight..I figure theres no need to bugger up a nice hawk when this one works just as well..;)

I've seen him list some folding knives for sale but no hawks lately.
