HDMC: Heavy Duty Medium Chopper!

I'm sorry, the HDFK is not currently in production though it was a fantastic pattern and I'm sure we'll revisit it again in the future. If you're looking for an HDMC you should hit up the folks at Fort Henry I think they might have some in inventory.

Thanks Nathan. I was actually on there the other day and it looks like everything of yours is sold-out, but maybe if I email them them have something they haven't listed. Can't wait for any future HDFK and HDMC pre-orders if/when you revisit them! Thanks for the response! Great group of people on this forum!

There was a sale from like 2 months back which according to Nathan was going to be the last of the HDMCs. I think that by that time, every old-timer who wanted one, or burros like me who wanted extra ones, managed to snag 'em in the preorder and the Friday sales. Cut a long story short, IIRC a few like maybe a handful were left over which Nathan must've then sold off to his only dealer (Fort Henry).

It is possible that FT hasn't listed them yet because I also don't see any showing sold there either, so you may wanna enquire through them. Just word to the wise, FT does rightfully mark them up so the prices which you see directly on here from CPK may be accelerated on the dealer's site by 25%, give or take.

They show 2 as sold.

I’ve had my CPK HDMC for a little over a month now, and today I realized that if there is such a thing as a
“security blanket” in this lifetime-
I finally located mine in a blade!

It is one seriously kick-ass blade!

What is thickness and is it still available? Thanks

I'll answer you here so not to clog the WTB/S/T thread:

The HDMC is .275" thick at ricasso... This pattern is Nathan's thickest production work yet so if you are looking for at least .275 OR THICKER, this is your only CPK option. It is sharpened at 22 DPS but I've forgotten what thickness it is immediately behind the edge. It does have a taller primary grind as opposed to the MC to make it the most robust CPK Chopper pattern to date. GLWYS.

The HDMC's thickness behind the edge = .053" (see below).
Both the HDMC & Behemother are .275" thick.

I frequently like to look at the edge thickness before sharpening because measuring the thickness behind the edge gives you a combination of the bevel grind thickness, the sharpening angle, and the grind primary angles. so the more acute your edge angle the thicker the behind the edge thickness will measure because it intersects the primaries higher up. But it is still a useful measurement. I'll measure some knives around the shop for comparison

Comp Chopper .028

Behemother: .036

HDMC: .053

Busse Bush Wacker Mistress: .085

applying a convex behind the edge will make the BTE measure much thinner, although the knife itself is actually not any thinner and the cutting characteristics won't be much different. so always look at BTE dimensions with a grain of salt because it doesn't tell you as much of the story is you might think unless everything is nice and straight and clean and perfect. I mention this because that competition Chopper is actually thinner than most of the other competitors but it will measure thicker in BTE because I have a narrow edge angle and a crisp V edge at that spot.

One more? Did you wear out the first one? ;):D
These are pretty HD & I don't think I could ever wear one out!
I gave one away to a favorite nephew and also sold one to a fine BF member only to recently have a brief moment of "clarity" and realized I could not deal with not having such a beast chopper in D3V at hand.
These are a real bargain for what we receive in quality and craftsmanship.
3rd time is a charm, so
this one will be mine forever!

I was totally kidding when I asked about wearing one out. :D
I'm glad you found another one!

There is an error in the CPK encyclopedia because it states the Behemother at .275" thick which it is not, per:

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/closed-pre-order-12-behemoth-chopper.1541591/

I had thought that Behemother was actually .260" so maybe Nathan will verify for sure. Too late for me to take out the calipers but I will do that 'morrow :)
Thank you for checking!
.250" in the thread you mentioned must be an error, otherwise it would essentially be the same as the Behemoth.

Edit: I just looked at the title of that thread, and it is for the Behemoth.

My apologies again for mishandling numbers! I knew that it wasn't the same as the BC's .250" but had mistakenly thought that it was .260" so, I got off my arse in the middle of watching a movie just for the sake of CPK science:

With my cheapie Chinese-made & Amazon-bought digital calipers, I measured my Behemother at .28 which I am sure will actually be .275 using Nathan's super duper IIRC Mitutoyo calipers :)
