Health problems

Jeff, I agree with RussB Bro!!! I've had 7 surgeries in the last 4 years and 6 I was knocked out. My gal bladder is gone as well and you just ajust the diet but keep on motoring Brother. Put your nose to the grind stone, stay focused and don't let something get you down. It will all come out in the wash and I believe you will do just fine Bro. Main thing is just remain positive and you will get through it. Just say "it's Mind over matter, I don't mind and it don't matter".

What ever you do you got my support Brother!!! Smoke and Prayers from Alaska

Wow man, I feel for you.
Prayers sent to make it as smooth as possible.
I had kidney stones and they were very painful.

Good luck to you man.

Im scared of going under too bud!! I barely sleep, so the thought of someone putting me under and i cant control myself or watch my surroundings is freaky.

I hope it works out well!

Sorry to hear about this. I hope that you get things figured out quickly and get to feeling better soon. Prayers and smoke headed in your direction.

I do believe that is exactly what scares me so much about it. The thoughts of having a procedure done does not bother me at all as long as I can watch what is going on.

If the ultra sound doesn't work, please just do the surgery. I let mine go for a couple years living with gallbladder attacks every few months, and finally had one of those "the pain just doesn't stop" nights spewing yellow bile. Ended up with a totally freaked out wife in the ER at 5:00am. That last attack was the most painful thing I have experienced to date. They diagnosed it, and took my gallbladder our that morning. I spent one day in the hospital and I felt so much better! I was home the next day and up and around in 48 hrs, back to work in 3 days, and pain free in 2 weeks. I didn't even need the pain meds after the third day. That was 5 years ago and, all have to show for it are a tiny 1" scar and two 1/2" scars you can barely see.

I hope you feel better soon, and the ultra sound works for you! :)

My experience almost to the letter. Had my gallbladder removed at your age--45. I spent one day in the hospital after surgery, up and around within a couple of days, small scars faded away within a few years. I'm now 63 and never had another problem after the surgery--feel great. If I were you I'd have it removed without a second thought.

Good luck!

Will

Don't fret being put under.....I've gone down more times than a $10 hooker. 3 times in a 10 month span. Have trust in your medical staff.....generally they know what they are doing.

The situation is scary but once the ball starts rolling it doesn't last long.

The last time I went under anesthesia the worst part was seeing the doc inject it into my IV..

Then he distracted with me with small talk and I remember starting to feel warm and sleepy,
it was almost pleasant actually.

Then boom, presto. I'm awake and the job was done, it seemed like minutes.

Sorry to hear about your illness. I hope and pray for a good outcome.

Fear of being knocked out for surgery is very common and natural. Most people have at least a touch of it.

My mother was 70 and my sister 50 when they had their gallbladders out, a year apart. My mother's was caused by multiple large stones while my sister's gallbladder had shriveled up like a raisin. Both had the "4 small incision" type surgery. Both were up and walking around the next day. The same sister also had back surgery for a broken back down low, S1 or S2 area. My father had appendectomy and hernia repair surgeries. I had an emergency, "she's gonna blow" appendectomy with 3 little incisions and a hemi-colonectomy to remove 12 inches of colon for colon cancer tumor removal which left a 12" scar 6 inches above and below my navel.

I could go on and on about literally dozens of surgeries in the family and they all had good results. Not to belittle your fears, because many of my relatives had and still have fears about surgeries, but the vast majority of all surgeries result in favorable results. Can things go wrong? Yep, but some idiot can run a stop sign when you are doing everything right and still take you out. I know I had some fears about the Cx surgery, primarily about what they were going to find. The appendectomy?? Nope. None. All I wanted was to get the pain to go away. A 12 on a scale of 1 - 10.

Yes, the bad news is you got gall stones and they hurt like a "hfbocshfdb" when causing an attack. The good news is something can be done about them. Everything I know about the non-surgery options is anecdotal with no hard data to back them it up, but the non-surgery successes have USUALLY been when the GB is "acting up" not after they have progressed to the "OOoohhh, this hurts really bad" stage.

So good luck and let us know when you're back up to snuff.

Thanks to all,this really helped.
I got news today from the ultrasound I had yesterday. Doc said no blood clots in my legs and the gallstones are small. He thinks there is a very good chance of the problem correcting itself in a few months with a change to my diet. Oh well need to loose weight anyway.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!! Congrats Bro, it's always good to get news like that...

Well never had that surgery. but from what I hear you prob wont even need it. I have had surgery twice but have been under 3 times...one was for wisdom teeth. One of the times I was 13 and cracked my skull in a dirt bike crash. They put me under, took my face off, popped my eye out, put a little metal plate in and then put me all back together. its kinda peaceful going under. they tell you to count back from 10.......10...9....8....7.....6......then you wake up 4 hours later well rested.

(edit) just noticed your post that it worked out...Congrats

Wow, that is scary stuff! I'm glad to see that the doctor only found small stones...based on my understanding, this kind of thing is MUCH easier to correct if you catch it early and jump on it - glad you got lucky in being able to avoid surgery! :)

I send prayers and support and wish you a speedy recovery from this scare...

Try to introduce fresh, or at least real apple juice into your diet - I'm not talking tree top apple juice, but the real stuff you'll find at places like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or your local natural foods store...it's unfiltered and cloudy and needs to be shaken and feels like you're drinking liquified apples - pretty delicious actually!

The mallic acid found in real apple juice is known to help soften gall stones

If you're open to trying out some alternative remedies to really flush out your gallbladder, you do have options:
1- Chinese herbs - if you can find a decent Chinese doctor/acupuncturist they can put you on herbal formulas that will soften gall stones, improve your body's ability to process fats/oils (restore gallbladder/liver health), and possibly pass stones naturally. I see you're in Tennessee so it may take some work to find someone but hopefully there's a decent Chinese doctor near you...

This other option I can't officially recommend, but it could be worth looking into...
2- Liver and Gallbladder flush - it's controversial but works for some of those who try it and you will literally see the stones pass through your poop. I've had friends and have seen patients in my school clinic have good results with this flush. Some people say you need to do it more than once, others claim to feel better after just one, so ymmv at best. I recommend do some research, both for and against it and make an educated decision - the nice thing about it is that as long as you don't go too crazy with the epsom salts and over-load your kidneys (don't do this!), it is a safe flush.

Good luck with whatever changes you decide to make! Let us know how it all goes for you :)

I know this is a very old thread but I just got back from seeing the surgeon this morning. Over the past few months I have been having more pain than not with this. Surgery is set a week from Friday. Hope all goes well and this nagging recurring pain is gone for good.
