Health problems

You'll feel MUCH better. As soon as I woke up from my surgery, my first thought was "That was it??!"

Good luck! Had mine out about 2 years ago and it was problem free. The relief from the pain was worth it. My function was less than one percent and wish I had gone to the docs and gotten it done sooner.

Best of luck, friend--you'll do just fine! Surgeries are never fun for us, but remember that your doctor is trained for this. Not to mention that removing a gall bladder is not a terribly complicated procedure. You will be good as new in no time...and you'll feel SO much better. I had my appendix removed several years ago--damn thing went bad, and have a small scar, that's it. I know it's the gallbladder for you but I had to "go under" for the appendectomy also. Honestly, I remember being told to count backwards from 10. I made it to 6 or so and my next memory is waking up in the recovery room. No muss, no fuss as they say.

Try not to worry too much and best of luck.

I know this is a very old thread but I just got back from seeing the surgeon this morning. Over the past few months I have been having more pain than not with this. Surgery is set a week from Friday. Hope all goes well and this nagging recurring pain is gone for good.

You will be fine.

When it's over, you'll breathe a sigh of relief and move on.

The anticipation is generally the hard part. In my experience.

I am sitting here with a pain every time I take a deep breath right now so I am ready. Worst thing about this is that I had to cancel the order on my 250.00 grab bag as I do not know how much of the hospital co pay I will have to come up with next week.
Thanks All!

I really hope it does make me feel better. Tried of felling like crap all the time and wondering if I will have a bad attack every time I eat a meal. Ate a Arbys beef and cheddar Sunday on the way back from some weekend meetings in St Louis and hurt bad for over 2 hours riding in the car.

I hope everything works out well I feel sure it will. I have never had surgery but my wife has had about 12 now and all have gone well, she has some pretty serious health issues including asthma and PTSD from some trauma in her early life and getting put under has always gone well. If you have PTSD let them know it can help in post op.

Today, doctors are so well equipped technologically that there's less to worry about than you think. I've had a thyroglossal duct cyst removed, 14 teeth pulled (in one sitting) hernia surgery, and most recently, been knocked out to have my thumb muscle surgically repaired from a very nasty deep slice through my palm while working at my first machine shop.

Here I am handsomer than ever.

Hang in there, and good luck.

After my last son was born my wife had a gall stone attack, she didn't even know she had a problem...she thought she was having a heart attack it was hurting her so bad!

Seems some women develop them during pregnancies.

Anyways they put her in surgery because it was close to blocking her liver duct or something like that, IIRC. Removed her gallbladder, it was a cakewalk, 4 little scars they covered with band aids. If gallstones were pearls I could have paid for a wheel barrow full of Battle Mistresses. She had numerous small ones and sludge.

As for recup: She had uncomfortable gas after the surgery <to be expected>. Took her a month or two to get her bathroom schedule back regular...since then A O.K.! Really it is a very routine procedure with low complications.

Everything everyone's said it true, the worry is the worst part, everything else is cake!

OK, now THAT hurts.

Best wishes from DC.

Docs been wanting to take mine out for many years, will put it off till they carry me on a stretcher. Till then I have been controlling it via diet and trying to do small flushes here and there. Been working now for more than 10 years.

You'll be fine so long as they don't mess with the 'stache.

Never had a surgery so that why I have been putting this off. Several people have been scaring me after it started back up hurting a lot. Very dangerous if it ruptures. A friend was just telling me a few days ago that he finally decided to have his out and the doctor told him it was within a few days of rupturing. Co workers mother had hers rupture just a couple weeks after I was diagnosed. They had to open her up to clean it out, over a week in the hospital and 6 weeks to recover fully after she got home. Sister in law had hers out a couple months ago and was back to work in 10 days, could have been 7 but how the dates worked out she took 10. All this kind of decided for me.

Went through this in '99. It is an easy surgery...outpatient. You'll be woozy afterwards, but not too bad pain-wise. I actually shot a wedding the day after mine (back when I was a photographer). I admit I hired an assistant to handle some heavy lifting...but it wasnt bad.

You will probably need to adjust your diet some. It takes a while for your body to adjust to some foods...mine was salad. Ate a big bread bowl salad the next day after the wedding shoot and damned near blew up due to the gas...lol. No harm, just real embarrassing.

Surgery is always scary no matter what is being done, but this one is relatively simple and easy to recover from.

Good luck...hopefully you wont have to have it done!

I've been under three times now, for minor surgeries. Best sleep I have ever had. Loved it. The only time I've slept near as good is when I'm laying on the forest floor deer hunting, when it's cold, with the sun shining on me. Yeah… I sleep when I'm hunting. Might explain why I'm not great at it.

Well I just got home from having 5 new holes put in me and my small intestine resectioned to remove a tumor. I can say I am a bit tender. But I can see the end. Yours won't be near as invasive as mine. Mine is a one off. Never find someone with the same issue.

You'll be fine. Nut up. Get er done. Move along.

And don't be to much of a "dude" to ask for something for anxiety. I've had to just for , sigh, proctology work on some polyps. You'll probably be giggling when they knock you out. I know I was engaged to my wife at the time, and I distinctly remember talking about it, then propositioning a nurse in the surgery. My future mother in law worked in that unit at the time, so I ate quite a lot of the stinky brown stuff for awhile .😎🙄😳. Relax , it can't go worse than that!

WOW I guess that would shock you into surgery. Sorry to hear about such horrible matters like that. Hope all is well.

Got back home about noon today. Wasn't all that bad. Did puke a couple times when they started to roll me out. Weird as I never puke. Hurting and uncomfortable right now but not as bad as I thought it would be. Doc said bladder was leathery and I did have a stone in a duct. Thought I had pinched a nerve in my upper back, hope it was the stone causing that as I have not had even a twinge with that today.
Can't thank you guys enough for the support here.
