The same girl after 20 years of living in that dry Texas heat.

This is called heat treating also.

I had a pic of Marilyn Manson posted but he was way to ugly for this crowd.

Your temper should be around 450-475F to hit 58-60.... you still aren't reaching full hard.

It looks like he's losing several points of hardness in his process. Some more hype ;)

By the way, anyone else see the irony of him using a $1500 PID-controlled heat treat furnace? :)

Serious question Jeff, How far down did you grind for decarb? Maybe you're at a lower hardness than you should be because of a false read?

Wow, this used to be a great community for learning about making knives. The only "hype" was the enthusiasm of the makers here, both experienced and novice. It was infectious and inspired many to dedicate time and energy to learning a craft that is in no way, shape or form "easy" or "simple". So nice to see one person make it their mission to tear that all down and insult the very community that was willing to forget about a sawzall blade with a photoshopped logo on it:rolleyes: Social skills? Nope, not useful at all. Someone needs to grow up or this forum will continue to deteriorate.

Very well put Jonny.
Now i am going to go to someone else's shop, take pics of their equiptment in action and then spout off to everyone that i know superior methods of heat treating. BMK....you really are doing a huge disservice to the knife making world in general. Didn't you get run out of the USN forums for acting like this? I will not pretend to like you, Actually i think you are a troll and should be banned for your half wit attempts to act superior to every one around you, However i do not control that. And it is also unfortunate that people support you for acting like a jackass, usually at the expense of others...

This thread, and other recent/similar ones, has tremendous value for knifemakers and knife-buyers alike. It's readily apparent to see which folks care about doing the best work they can, and are willing to let their personalities take a bow while their pursuit of excellence continues.

Can you spell: syc·o·phant

This has been fun, predictable...but still fun.

At who's expense. I say everyone's. You think tying up the forum for hours with intentional trolling is fun and games. But the purpose of this forum is not to entertain you. You should find something to do that is less invasive to others and leave this to people who like to make knives. Goodbye!

Speaking of hype, I seem to remember a certain maker of knife like objects who made outlandish claims regarding the use of SawzAll blades in knife making. Also, kit knives apparently become top of the line customs when someone "engineers" a handle.

Talk about hype...

Dissent from groupthink is not trolling. Tony and I serve as a two primate counterbalance to hype. My opinion that knifemaking is relatively simple is offensive to some. The reason some find my opinion so repulsive, though no one will admit it; is that it somehow dimishes what they do and undermines the arcane nature of knifemaking that some have created. Simplicity is antithetical to self-aggrandizing false idols and their syncophants. 6 months ago the same groupthinkers claimed I could not make a knife and I never served in the military - they were wrong then and they are wrong now. ;)

I honestly don't even know why you are still allowed to post on these forums. You do as much damage to this community as any spammer, scammer, or internet bully that I have ever seen. Seriously? This thread was purely for your amusement? It just confirms what I've said for a long time, that your base motivation with every post you make is to stir the pot, insult respected makers, and incite animosity. Whether it is said openly or not, the vast majority of people here have no use for you and your routine was old and tired a long time ago. Why anyone would want to spend their time trying to get people to hate them is beyond me. I'm done with you and hope I never feel compelled to post in one of your spiteful threads again.:thumbdn:
