heavy use folder wanted

Bad idea to be prying with any kind of knife. Check out the prybars at http://www.countycomm.com/PRYBAR.htm or get yourself an Atwood tool at http://www.phlaunt.com/atwoodknives/ and concentrate on getting a knife that cuts rather than prys:thumbup:
A knife is weakest through it's shortest dimension.

People pry with knives.

Some knives are meant to be used for prying -- application of force through the thickness of the blade rather than its width -- within limits.

Some knives are advertised as to be used for prying -- and things I would
never use a knife to accomplish -- unless I had no choice.

We have no idea what the thread author wants to accomplish with a folder - yet.

I recall Fonly a while back doing a thread where he did a fair amount of batoning with his buck 110 and gave it rave reviews....Not carbon...but tough as nails and the price is right...and it's an American Classic

People use screwdrivers for prybars, drift punches, and wood chisles, but there are better tools for the job. I'd love to see a manufacturer claim that you can pry with their folder. It just burns me to see good tools used poorly.

Buck 110 Gerber Gator I have battoned with both with good results, they are bothe tough as can be for really cheap prices

The spyderco Manix has a huge following,I have used one once and I plan on making it my next woods folder.

Undoubtedly all true.

I'm looking for an extreme heavy use folder with at least 4-inch heavy carbon blade. The closest I've been able to come is CS Recon #1. Would like a conventional clip blade, the heavier the better - even to 1/4" Want it to replace fixed blade, for pocket carry. Do I have to go to a custom? Thanks for your help.
Drocko

You emphasize carbon steel and the only example of this that I could think of is the Camillus CUDA Maxx, assuming you consider D2 to be a carbon steel. The "small" version has a D2 blade that is 5.5" and the large is 7". Here is a picture of mine, with a Busse EU-17 for scale:

The 5.5" blade comes in either a clip/bowie profile or stiletto rather than the spear point of the big boy.

Why does Drocko have two threads going with the same title? HERE is the other.

(( Thanks for the link. Through the marvels of forum technology,
I have merged the two identically started threads.))
:D

I have a mini Manix and love it, but in my opinion the strongest folder that has ever passed through my hands is the Benchmade 14200, also known has the HK34.

I sold it because it was a little too thick and heavy in the pocket, but you might not mind that.

The Kershaw ZT Scavenger is really sturdy and is made from S30V steel so it would hold up well as a backup.

One of the Buck-Striders might do you... ATS-35 tho', not carbon steel. But plenty rugged for a folder. Personally, I'd carry another FB as a back-up, which would likely be lighter and stronger than a folder. Just my 2 cents.

Check out the Kershaw ZT group of knives
They look to be a nice piece of equipment !
That will be my next large folder just haven't made up my mind on wich one yet . :p
