Help buying my first Busse

Ok. I Didn't see your last post. Do you know why they sell them in two differant places? Seems like a hassle. What's the differance in buying ct the online store and buying direct?

You think THAT's a hassle; it took me 2 weeks of lurking before I found the store OR the website, and all that was offered on the website was the Sus Scrofa :barf:

then there are the acronyms:rolleyes:

Busse site should post: WARNING: SHARP LEARNING CURVE AHEAD!

The Busse Company Store is an independent retailer, run by idahoskunk and his wife. Scott (skunk) will occasionally design and order unique Busse knives for resale on his site. When you buy there, the knives are in stock (supply may be limited) and shipped immediately.

Busse Combat has direct sales, where you place an order and wait for the product run.

Yes, it can be confusing for new folks. It is what it is. <shrug> And Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard only adds to the confusion.

Anyway, the store gets stuff that is already produced and ready to ship. The BC site takes orders and then produces them in about "2 weeks."

So could I order the Nuclear Meltdown SAR 3 direct or do I have to but it from Idahoskunk with a mark up? And if so what else can I order direct? I want this to be my first Busse and I'm worried i won't get one. And yes tomthebaker,It's a massive brain shocker trying to learn all the Busse stuff?

You have to order it from 'Skunk as this is a special release only available through him, but there's no markup. The price he sells it for would be the same as if Busse were doing the selling.

You may get a little extra special attention if you tell Skunk you'll send him a bottle of his favorite beverage.:D

Tom, if you drink enough you can smooth that curve out by drifting into the other lane;):D

THen its not so difficult even at high speed. Nascar Baby:cool::thumbup:

Or not... The deadline on shipping bribes for special consideration from 'Skunk...errr, I mean "gifts", was last Wednesday. ;)

:p

Looks like I'll be getting out of bed around 9:30 tonight "cause I can't sleep" and may as well spend some time on the computer. At least that's what I'm telling her!

Friendly advice concerning your statements (1) that once you've bought the knife, you're stuck with it, and (2) that you cannot afford to buy more than the 3 knives listed:

1) Buy a BWM direct from Busse right now. Busse will discontinue this model and put a new one up on their site within the next few weeks or at most months. Once this happens, your BWM will be worth at least what you paid for it, probably a little more in unused condition. So if you buy it and don't like it, no problem--you can sell it easily on the Exchange here for what you paid for it. Just have a little patience--takes a little while after the model is discontinued for it to begin appreciating. Also, don't worry about the knife sustaining damage of any kind. You will not break it unless you dedicate yourself to doing so on purpose. If you break it accidentally, Busse will replace it.

2) Your conclusion that you can only afford three knives represents perfectly rational thinking. But when you entered this forum you crossed an invisible line, and you have now entered a new dimension. The longer you stay here, the farther you will remove yourself from any basis for rational thinking as it may be applied to quantities of knives versus their cost in dollars. And you should know that if you continue to frequent this site, you will reach a point at which you will not be able to recall the foundation for any such rationale. By the way, as far as anyone knows, this condition is irreversible.

Welcome. :)

Good advice Will. It doesn't take long to start loosing ones ability to rationalize around here. I'm struggling already. By the way, I doubt I will break the Busse. I am more worried about chipping and rolling of the edge which will make it more difficult to sharpen. I am still working on my sharpening skills. If you guys run across anything at a good price let me know. Thanks.

Ok guys I'm taking the plunge. I've decided to go ahead and get the BWM!!! I like the satin blade finish on the LE But it's 200.00 more. Does anyone know anything about the saber grind and how it compares to the convex?

Good for you. IMHO, the biggest difference in the grinds is the extra 2 oz. or so the LE gets from it. I went for a Combat Grade (CG) because of the price difference, even though I generally prefer uncoated steel.

I'm very happy with my blade
