Help Doc! She has spots and complains of ringing in her ears and halucinations.

well as your local propane sales man I can at least tell you that c5h8 the holy blue flame comes from the top of the fraction column at the refinery , it burns clean, so I can understand how it would leach carbon the same way water without any mineral content will leach ?something about electrons probably

You may be right but the propane I got locally was pretty freekin dirty. It had some kind of oil in it that collected inside that burner. After I turned it off and disconnected I carried it outside and all that oil ran down the tube on the nozzle and this cloud of white acrid smoke billowed up. Nasty stuff. Maybe its low carbon? I just figured since its a hydrocarbon it had carbon??? Looks like im going to have to build me a smithy shop outside separate from the main house anyway.

do not blame the propane for what is clearly water's fault ndog-- or it could be the ethyl mercaptin additive for the stanky-- I stand by propane, it burns clean!

also hank hill lives in texas and I live in tennessee-- there is a pretty big difference considering texans are all just tennesseans who ran away :D

Remind me to tell you a little story about me, two of my Grandkids, a book of matches, and the Grandson's school principle some time.....and one big time irate Daughter....

Hey Bookie, you told me to remind you about a story involving two of your Grandkids, a book of matches and the grandsons school principle?

I'm especially interested in the irate daughter part as I forsee many many of those occasions in my near future and maybe not so near future too.

Already got one under me belt, I taught the granddaughter how to do a proper rasberry. Which was fine cept daughter was feeding her some kind of creamated green beans (nasty nasty stuff, worse than worms and grasshoppers and such).

I didn't measure but I'm confident she blew green beans at least 30 inches, nailed mom in the face proper.

I temporarily lost my hero status with my daughter there for a few minutes.

Now I'm working on teaching her the Hawaiian Good Luck sign so when her truck driver daddy gets back home from Georgia she can flip him off proper. Dang I do love grandkids, at least for short periods when I'm not busy ya know?

Hey Bookie, just a reminder, please tell us a little story about you, two of your Grandkids, a book of matches, and the Grandson's school principle some time!

Uh....has to do with Bud Lite propane au naturale....Grandfatherly instruction....school for show and tell...uh....home for 3 days.........

Blessed be it weren't catholic school. I still got marks on me hands from them nun's and their rulers, more like yard sticks.

Still shiver whenver I see the habit. Ruined me mentally in my formative years I think.

Kamidog, Your next lesson: There are three levels of a fire when blacksmithing. What do they do to your metal?

Lemme guess? probably has something to do with oxidation reduction but im at loss. Do i get an "F"?

Bawanna I had a similar experience. I went to catholic school in first grade too and had to wear the uniform and all that stuff. Anyway we got rulers passed out for the day then at the end of the day we would pass them back in. One day i forgot to pass mine back in so the next day I had two in my desk. Well crap! Im gonna get in trouble now i thought so each day sister passed them out again and again and eventually i had about a dozen of them in my desk. We finally ran short so she asked about them. I raised my hand and showed her my stash:eek: Man i got beat with each and every one of them. That was when they were heavy wood with the brass strip in them. Didnt do that again:o

Got some monkey tools in the mail with a few blades as well so while the wait is on I finished up and tested a dual burner for the gas forge. This is what it looks like now.

No problem getting enough air. Im only using one set of holes. I could probably open upthe air slide and drill out the orifice a bit and get some more BTU"S out of it? I just love flamethrowers and two flamethrowers are even better:D

A few adjustments to get them sync'd up and all looks good. I also put a valve on one burner so I could turn the heat way down to almost off if needed.

Nite shot just cause fire is cool at night:p
I know Bookie...gas is probably blasphemy to a real blacksmith like you but im working on the coal forge in parallel. Still gathering parts. Dumpster diving has not been very productive lately. Spring cleaning should present some good stuff soon:thumbup:

Couple of cross peins, couple of straight peins, sledge, and a hot cutoff chisel. I also have a few more awaiting some smaller handles. I ran out of hickory.

I sandblasted the heads and lightly sanded them to remove the burrs and nicks etc. Ill probably paint them for rust prevention while they are clean. All handles got mineral oil treatment just like my Khuks.

Put some wood wedgies in them then some steel wedgies! Hope I did that right? Dont seem like they are going anywhere. Whacha think Doc? Think that'll get me started? Still working on the forge but had to have something to do in the meantime.

Nice looking bunch of hammers... still looking for pics of the monkey tools though? Or am I missing something. I thought monkey tools were used for cutting tenon shoulders? Perhaps it is a more generic name when applied to blacksmithing? Ah well. a really nice job of hanging those hammers and they look like a good variety of heads.

Thanks Shavru. Monkey tools are hammers from what i understand from "other smiths". I was building me a sandblast cabinet so this was actually a parallel project resulting from that. Cant wait to hammer some steel with them.

Funny, I was working on knifemaking this Saturday and ended up helping tighten up a sandblasting cabinet while the other guy had his turn on the mill. Yeah, I'd rather be hammering away, but without tools, experience etc. and with access to a mill and some other tools like that I've ended up doing stock removal.

I fully understand that. Im sitting in a full machine shop right now so It is tempting just to hog out something. Its not exactly well equipped and If I want to do something I usually have to buy my own tools. Other than the mill and lathe I can get more done in my shop at home. The bosses office is too close to the machine shop now so when I turn on a machine I have to be ready with an excuse to explain what im doing. Fortunately they wouldnt have a clue anyway so i do manage:D My blast cabinet was a cheap chinese harbour frieght piece of crap and leaked out every orifice it had. Probably why it was in the dumpster:D. I finally replaced everything except the sheet metal it was made of and got it sealed. It just doesnt pay to buy that crap. Glad i got it for nothing at least.
